That boy is bout as sharp as a bowling ball...
Trump built his own infrastructure and beat the establishment, clintons, bushes, media.
But Bill’s candidates won’t run unless someone provides an infrastructure for them?
Good luck with that...
LOL! When I saw that slate.
David French up again?
Just when you think you can’t stand his smirk any more, he makes you want to slap him.
BEST ELECTION EVAH!!!!!
Neocons had a good run...maybe its time for them to move over the Dems and leave the GOP alone.
I’d be fine if this sorry POS joined John McCain.
Kasich? LOL.
Wasn’t he like 3%?
Interesting that IMHO Sasse, Flake and Kasich all have a certain look...maybe a “John Edwards look” ... good hair, similar ages.
It didn’t work in 2016, wonder why any of them think it will work now that we have a President Trump who has proven he keeps his campaign promises.
David French up again?
I remember when Kristol kept saying he was going to have a big name guy run as a 3rd party candidate. David French? LOL! I’d never heard of the man.
Running as an anti-populist patrician hasn’t worked out for Republicans since Rockefeller tried in ‘64. Even George the Elder had to play act as Reagan’s heir. McCain played up that Mavericky thing. Bib Dole showed that just being a curmudgeon doesn’t play much better.
A number tested the waters, Lowell P. Weicker, Arlen Specter, Michael Bloomberg come to mind. They all investigated running for president as Republicans, and not only couldn’t get out of the starting blocks, but wound up leaving the party. Charlie Crist might have fallen into the category as well, but I don’t know if he ever got to the serious investigating stage.
Any “name” candidate for 2020 will be running for 2024, as he will have burned his bridges with the rank-and-file of the party. Ben Sasse comes to mind. The money boys (rich Silicon Valley types, etc.)wouldn’t dare take on Trump in the primaries. Old line conservatives will not challenge.
Does Kristol live in such a bubble that he thinks 4 years of prep, a pile of money, and the backing of NR and the Weekly Standard will derail the Trump Train?
In reality, a guy like Trump thrives on having a heel to play off of, and he can’t spend a whole year on Pocahontas or whomever.
Bill Kristol is no conservative, he’s a Deep State Socialist NWO scumbag. Probley gives Mitt B!s
WILLIAM KRISTOL
Let us, as conservatives, seek guidance from those we admire.
The Federalist (No. 39) speaks of that honorable determination which animates every votary of freedom to rest all our political experiments on the capacity of mankind for self-government. Hasnt Donald Trump been a votary merely of wealth rather than of freedom? Hasnt he been animated by the art of the deal rather than by the art of self-government?
William F. Buckley Jr. proclaimed, in the founding statement of this journal, that conservatism stands athwart history, yelling Stop, at a time when no one is inclined to do so, or to have much patience with those who so urge it. Hasnt Donald Trump always been a man inclined to go along indeed, impatient to get along with history?
In a letter to National Review, Leo Strauss wrote that a conservative, I take it, is a man who despises vulgarity; but the argument which is concerned exclusively with calculations of success, and is based on blindness to the nobility of the effort, is vulgar. Isnt Donald Trump the very epitome of vulgarity?
In sum: Isnt Trumpism a two-bit Caesarism of a kind that American conservatives have always disdained? Isnt the task of conservatives today to stand athwart Trumpism, yelling Stop?
