Conservative commentator and outspoken "Never Trump" critic Bill Kristol says he is building a "war machine" within the Republican party to challenge President Trump's 2020 reelection campaign, according to CNBC.
Kristol told the network that he's preparing "for a primary run against Trump," adding that Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) is on his shortlist of possible candidates.
Kasich was unsuccessful in his 2016 bid for the Republican presidential nomination, only managing to beat Trump in his home state.
Kristol also said Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) and outgoing Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) are also being considered.
We are thinking of and doing preliminary work to prepare for a primary run against Trump, Kristol told CNBC on Thursday. People arent going to say they will run against Trump unless they have the infrastructure, but Ive been trying to persuade people that it may not be that difficult.
Kristol, who has called Trump "disgraceful" and "buffoonish," is the editor at large and founder of conservative magazine, The Weekly Standard. Kristol also serves as director of the nonprofit organization, Defending Democracy Together.
In a statement to CNBC, Sasse's spokesman did not deny that the senator has spoken to Kristol.
"I'm not going to comment on what other people decide to bring up in their personal conversations with the senator, but like we've said for a long time Ben doesn't pay any attention to the 2020 Washington rumor mill," said spokesman James Wegmann.
The Hill has reached out Kasich and Flake for comment.
They would get two votes.
The same clown is now going to oppose Trump in 2020 with either Kasich, who could only win a presidential primary in his own state, OR with Flake, who had to retire because he couldn't even win a primary in his own state.
Such a joke of a campaign is as much of a "war machine," as this is an "aerial war machine":
Whoever Kristol runs will only get the votes of those Republicans who voted for Hillary in 2020.
Kristol and the rest of the neocons have no influence. As in none. Nobody is going along with their perpetual meddling/war agenda. Other than wanting the US to constantly meddle abroad, they’re basically just liberals.
Just looking at his face alone makes me want to deck that punk.
Words cannot describe how much I really despise this sorry POS!
Please tweet, Trump, please....
Snort.
A legend in his own mind.
I agree, what a smug, fetid, autofellatory pool of diarrhea he is.
Weak-ley Standard.
Kristol obviously doesn’t care about the things he once pretended to care about, otherwise he’d be supporting Trump. It will be interesting to see what this loser has to say if Trump is able to broker a Middle East peace deal. Kristol stand for nothing except the maintenance of his place in an exclusive political elite that wishes to continue to run the people’s government as their own personal fiefdom, all while lying to the public about it.
Kristol is the Rubio of the MSM - talked a conservative game for a while but then showed his true colors.
Yes, one can see your point... they all be kinda metro, with the exception of Kasich, who has turned out as just a f’n slob at his age...
