Looking to get a new pump 12GA for waterfowl hunting since I'm back home in Michigan. I've had Rem semi-auto in the past but a pump seems to fit my waterfowl needs right now; I won't expend too much ammo at innocent and unsuspecting sky. I've looked at Winchester "long barrel" (32) and can't find a REM with a longer barrel (>28) outside of special order.
Here's my questions: (1) Is the Winchester 12GA pump consistent and reliable in the cold? (2) Is the long barrel better or equivalent to the 28-inch with a full choke?
Both guns I'm considering are equivalent in price. Again, TIA.

What happened to 10-gauge as a choice?

3.5in mag has practically eliminated the 10ga.

Remington 870 Wingmaster.
My 45 year old one came with a 30 inch barrel.

Before my tragic boating accident I had a stainless Circuit Judge.
Very useful around the home. Shoots as a shotgun OR rifle.
Can use .410 shotgun shells -OR- 45 cal long bullets. Yes it is a REVOLVER shotgun.
When the zombie apocalypse comes, it could be judiciously 'resized' to be handy carry around. inside the home it won't take out structural walls the way a 12-guage might

Around here you'll need the Phalanx CIWS.
Although I don't think the radar can track that many targets.

Recommendation (from talking with Uncle Ted Nugent one day):
410GA now has the option of saboted deer slugs. Stopping power for those “slightly off-center” shots.

Since season is open NOW, I don’t want to run around to every shop in the area nor do I want to wait weeks to get the gun.
I’m down to picking one of the too THIS WEEKEND. Would you recommend (1) the REM with the 28 barrel, full-choke, or (2) the WIN 32 barrel.

WIN 32-inch barrel doesn’t take 3.5
REM 28 does

I really like my Benelli pump, but I don’t know if you can get that length barrel in anything cheaper than a good used car though...

IMHO, longer barrel does not equal extra range or tighter patterns.
Long range with shotgun? It is all about your choice of shells.
Pick the shotgun you like and the most expensive shells you can afford.

I have been hunting waterfowl for over 30 years now and never felt I needed a barrel longer than 28”. I actually prefer 26” because it is easier to get it up out of a blind weather it is a boat bling pit blind or a layout blind 26” just seems to handle better. If your shots are that long invest in calls decoys and do more scouting to get the birds in closer. I have killed Canada Geese well beyond 40 yards with my 26” barrel SBE

You could go with the shorter barrel and get extended choke tubes later if you feel the need. Best of both worlds.
