WASHINGTON – The House has passed legislation that would outlaw the slaughter of dogs and cats for food – a practice that, although rare, is still legal in 44 states.
The bipartisan bill by Florida Reps. Vern Buchanan, a Republican; and Alcee Hastings, a Democrat; would amend the federal Animal Welfare Act to ban the slaughter of dogs and cats for human consumption in the United States. It was passed Wednesday by voice vote.
The bill makes it illegal to knowingly slaughter, transport, possess, buy, sell or donate dogs or cats or their parts for human consumption. Violators would be fined up to $5,000.
“I’m stunned to find it was legal anywhere.”
I assume if it was not declared illegal it was a concept that nobody even thought about doing.
We are importing immigrants into the United States that love to eat cats and dogs. It was probably intended to head that off.
Isn’t diversity just grand?
What if it is an emergency and you are starving? This law would not work well in Venezuela under the Chavistas.

Well, that was certainly central to our nation’s problems right now! We can never say our Congress doesn’t have our most important issues at the top of the pile.
LOL I really get flummoxed and do not catch double words. LOL Thank you, for catching it and pointing the error out to me. :)
I’d have to agree with you. This isn’t government’s business and is a step towards not being allowed to raise beef or chicken for slaughter.
