WASHINGTON The House has passed legislation that would outlaw the slaughter of dogs and cats for food a practice that, although rare, is still legal in 44 states.
The bipartisan bill by Florida Reps. Vern Buchanan, a Republican; and Alcee Hastings, a Democrat; would amend the federal Animal Welfare Act to ban the slaughter of dogs and cats for human consumption in the United States. It was passed Wednesday by voice vote.
The bill makes it illegal to knowingly slaughter, transport, possess, buy, sell or donate dogs or cats or their parts for human consumption. Violators would be fined up to $5,000.
Damned, that ruins my dinner party this weekend!
Hilarious and True to your handle!
Very true about their misplaced priorities and humanity.
Some say it all started with Lincoln and went downhill from there.
Braim Trump.
Real “pressing” issue they’re tackling right here. I know when I see Gallup polls of the things that concern Americans the most, ‘eating cats/dogs’ usually comes in first, just above ‘the economy.’
Exec power brokers recently overheard saying there’s an awful financial reset ahead.
Maybe this measure will at least ensure our pets are safe from starving neighbors...
RE: “Must be getting ready for She Guevaras socialism. When we go all Venezuela you cant eat Fido.”
I think it’s that that it was legal. I think the concern was that it wasn’t illegal, yet. Sooner or later some Third Word person would try to sell Cat &/or Dog for eating and it would end up going through the courts. And even worse, the treatments given these poor creatures before being killed is simply horrific. Glad someone with a semblance of sanity is thinking ahead.
Obama and Hillary are the most affected by this.
So, why do we need this law? We want to have a federal law to prohibit something that rarely happens? Forty-four states havent found it enough of a problem to legally prohibit the practice, why is it so necessary for the feds to get involved.
Doesnt this law need a statement like may not be transported across state lines for human consumption to fit within the limits of the constitution?
While I dearly wish Abortion were illegal, it’s a separate issue. I wish the folks in the House were as concerned for the Children as well as the furbabies.
They musta been worried those muzzies would start kidnapping and chomping down on people’s boofies.
As “The Patriot” said, “Dog makes a fine meal.”

BTW, "fricassee" is French. There's an area of Italy that's big on cat meat dishes.
OTOH, French markets sell rabbit with the head still on to help the consumer make sure it's really rabbit, and not a kitty cat.
And in China, one province holds an annual dog meat fest around the Summer Solstice.
[ I am completely against this law. ]
I am against this law as it is a WASTE of FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RESOURCES!!!
Booker admitted he ate chinese and is sparticus!
would amend the federal Animal Welfare Act to ban the slaughter of dogs and cats for human consumption in the United States."
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponents Argument
The states have never expressly constitutionally delegated to the feds the specific power to make such a law. Its up to the individual states to make such laws with their unique, 10th Amendment-protected powers.
"From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]. United States v. Butler, 1936.So this bill is an unthinking attempt to unconstitutionally expand the already unconstitutionally big federal governments powers imo.
Corrections, insights welcome.
I love cats!
But I can never finish a whole one.
