A subdivision in a small Texas town north of Austin is facing a dangerous influx of rattlesnakes...Brown came across a baby rattlesnake in his own yard, where his two-year-old daughter and three dogs often play...According to KXAN, local authorities are aware of the issue, but to Brown's knowledge, they haven't done much other than recommend people take preventive measures by cleaning up any overgrown brush or getting rid of places where snakes can hide...As for Brown, he thinks the snakes are victims too and people should heed the recommendations from authorities. I don't want a child, adult, or dog to be bit," Brown said. "I just think people could pick up stuff in their yards, and have situational awareness. If the snakes have no reason to take up residence in your yard, they will go elsewhere."

Rattlers go where the food source is. If you have rats, field mice and rabbits in abundance you are going to have rattlesnakes.
My brother got bit by a copperhead hiding in some leaves at the lake few years back. He had to have strong antibiotics and strong pain meds in hospital. He was there for a week and off work another two weeks. Ten years out his foot still throbs where he was bit on cold winter nights at work.
I killed a four foot yellow timber rattler crawling along the road beside me while I was on my tractor. I looked down and it was right beside me, scared the crap out of me. A .357 JHP round sent him to a better place. That year I killed 17 snakes all but two were copperheads and rattlesnakes.
Out here the snakes-rattlsnakes included-need to be deterred and discouraged because otherwise they will get into your chicken house, decimate eggs and chickens, and create a hazard for people, pets, livestock etc. People do everything from simply keeping the brush cleared around chicken and people areas, scattering mothballs, not watering plants/trees/bushes along the fences after sundown, to fancy snake repellents and electrifying the bottom outside of chicken houses, etc. It all works-just a matter of how much you have to spend-and the mothballs keep away raccoons, too-they do not like that naphthalene/para smell.
I do love marinated, grilled rattlesnake, but haven’t found one to shoot, skin and grill in a couple of years-and it’s a good thing...
Maybe those people in that burb should try just not watering so much after sundown and trimming up the bushes from the ground?
My grandma bought a new car and drove it the hour back to the house. She told grandpa it had a rattle so grandpa went out to check it out. Seems there was a rattlesnake under her seat.
Oh yeah-I forgot about the peacocks-I’ve seen them go after and kill snakes just for the hell of it, so they are a good investment in snake control-but I doubt the snooty liberals in a burb of Austin would want large, screeching birds in the backyards...
I’m in Central Texas. not far from Leander and have stepped of a rattlesnake, and see them quite often.
I wold not have one as a pet, but they are not much of a bother.
They are very much alike, but your idea is better!

There really is such a guy, although he doesn't stomp rattlesnakes on purpose. He actually stepped on a huge one - fatter than your leg - while walking in flip-flops at the Grand Canyon.
Rattlesnake Matt jumped off quickly and the snake didn't bite him - he is legend ever since.
lol i made quite a little sum in texas selling rattlesnakes for hat bands years ago an industrious person could clean up if they are that heavy ! plus make money on removing them !

One of my staff lives in Liberty Hill. Her commute is getting any better for sure.
I have to admit that I’ve had grilled snake in the past, too. It’s D@MN good! It’s basically, ‘Land Lobster!’
I also like ‘Gator - but I’m really not up to shooting them myself. I’ll hunt rabbits and deer and go fishing.
Also the occasional Liberal Hippie, but just a butt-full of rock salt. They’re WAY too gamey for my tastes, LOL! ;)
LMAO! I’ve never eaten gator-when my 1st hubby and I visited friends who lived outside Miami, they insisted on taking us to a restaurant that featured gator cooked several ways-hubby ate it and liked it, but I just didn’t like the smell or the look of it-looked and smelled like fish gone wrong to me-snake doesn’t have that smell or look...
I killed a Cottonmouth in my wife’s garden, yesterday. Yeah. we do have snakes and wetbacks in this area.
When it comes to the non-venomous variety of snakes, I just leave them alone to do their thing. Venomous snakes? I kill them on sight. No point in putting my wife, grandkids or dogs in danger. And yes, I can tell the difference between the two. I was raised in a time when men were men and women were women and there was no confusion at all about things.
Probably best to burn Austin .... a known snake repository!!!
You may be interested in a crime thriller set in Arizona -- from the California border through the Salt River Valley and up to the Hellsgate Wilderness in Zane Grey country. It has a lot of action. Oh, and there is a scene with a rattlesnake up by Haigler Creek.
