The former "Cosby Show" actor job-shamed by some media outlets over the weekend with photos showing him working at a Trader Joe's in New Jersey to make ends meet, said Tuesday he was so upset that he quit his job. Geoffrey Owens
"I was really devastated," Geoffrey Owens, who lives in Montclair, said during an interview on Good Morning America.
But Owens said the outpouring of support he received on social media from the entertainment industry and beyond helped him through it.
"The period of devastation was so short because so shortly after that, the responses my wife and I started to read - literally all over the world ... fortunately, the shame part didn't last very long." "It hurt, but then, it's amazing," he said.

His late daddy was Marxist congressman Major Owens. Now that is something to be embarrassed and devastated by, not doing honest labor.
Gofundme...absolutely correct
It was the media that thought they were better than a serf working a 9-5 job as a cashier.
Everyone recognized him? I doubt that. I had to look him up on wiki. The Cosby Show ended 26 years ago. Most Trader Joe’s customers never saw the show and the others had long forgotten the rarely seen actor on the show. So, what, he quits a job and is now not only an unemployed actor but an unemployed stock boy.
Quit quickly, claim despair, and milk the sympathy cash cow?
Seems more lucrative than just reporting for work the next day.
Sure - but thats not why he quit his job THIS time.
I don’t know who got paid well for that show but this guy was a third banana at best. A son in law that was brought in at the end of the show’s run when it wasn’t really good anymore. I’m guessing he didn’t get a fortune from the work.
Good news is that someone else who needs a job will take it and nit complain, “look at me...”.
He said that being recognized in the past wasn’t problematic at his job. Was there suddenly going to be a gaggle of star watchers.
What does this have to do with political views?
This guy had a job like millions of other people out there. An honorable, hard working job. And Fox (yes, they get the blame here) somehow decided that this was worthy of a news story?
It was a despicable article and nothing but click-bait at the expense of another human being. So they guy has a job and minds his own business. Leave him alone!
He’s being shamed right here on FR, lol! Unbelievable...
Why is anyone ashamed of honest work?
The guy is minding his own business and working an honest job and Fox decides to proclaim to the world that he’s down on his luck and working in a menial job. It was a rotten thing to do, and you or I would be pissed if put in the same position.
Fox didn’t need any help looking bad. They’re the one who ran the story in the first place. No way I would defend Fox in this whole sorry episode.
DailyMail thinks it is shameful to work an honest day’s living, but laudable to ride Hollywood’s casting couch to “success.”
Double tap - hes now got a steady gig working on Tyler Perrys series and gets to stick it to Fox News in his way out (the article which, ironically, is responsible for his better paying gig)
Ive looked at the article and the photos. Given this traumatic event I will NOT be fat shaming him. Period.
And yet if CNN had done this theyd be praised for helping out the downtrodden.
I completely agree, I named Fox because it is still the one network the self proclaimed "unbiased" MSM continue to attack as "extremist right wing".
Fox is no better than the rest of the MSM.
Whos shaming him?
I hope he quit his job like Ram Jam in “The Wrestler”
