Trappers are hunting a giant monitor lizard that showed up at a home in Florida and it won’t go away.

Zach Lieberman‘s wife spotted the creature by the patio door of the family’s home in Davie.

“She started screaming and I’m thinking, ‘What’s going on?,” Lieberman told CBS Miami. He took a look at the creature by the door and went around the house to shoo the large lizard away. But the reptile turned the tables on him.

“He followed me. He followed me from right here all the way out to the front of my house,“ Lieberman said of the lizard that wasn’t backing down.

Monitor lizards are known to be aggressive, have sharp teeth and claws. They can even knock a small animal like a raccoon, cat, or dog unconscious with its powerful tail and swallow them whole.

“It didn’t occur to me how dangerous he really was and how close an encounter I was actually getting into until after the fact,“ Lieberman said. He estimates the lizard is more than 6 feet long and weighs well over 100 pounds. one Florida home, has left Lieberman fearful of going outside.

Monitor lizards are capable of inflicting serious harm, not only to animals and people, but also to the local ecology. The giant predators reportedly consider crocodile eggs one of their favorite treats to eat.

I hope they catch it, and send to a zoo or something.

I live in a low-crime area (for now) in the Colorado Rockies. Our risks are mainly from black bears up to about 350 pounds. In spring through fall I keep my mossy loaded with the first three rounds in 12 ga Brenneke slugs and the second three 3” mag 00 buck. In winter I reverse the order.

Overkill. .22LR will do. Then you get the leather.

Nice idea. That would work on two legged animals too. I like the capture and take to the Zoo idea too. They could give it to the jaguars, be a nice break from the caimans and tapirs and such. “Tastes like chicken”. 😀

Shoot it with a little .22.
It’ll run off, and self-dispose of the problem.

You obviously have something against leather and jaguars. Some here are pushing conservation. It’s kind of a “use it or lose it” thing for me. Feed the kitty and have a kick azz jacket. “ Win/Win”. Plus a rogue wounded lizard has to be worse than a James Carville.

That would work. A head, a tail and pink mist in the middle would be pretty much all that would be left. I’m thinking a Ruger .17 would take care of this critter.

Zach, you’ve got a future belt, hat and nice pair of boot that you can sell to the highest bidder.

I don’t know about monitor lizard skulls. On bears even soft Foster type slugs can ricochet off the skull.

Put one in the head, toss it on the rotisserie and have friends over.

That is not a family being terrorized. A family has a man in it.

I wasn’t thinking a head shot but it would probably work. You have a good point though. The bone structure is probably pretty tough. Eight in the gut should put em down.
