Trappers are hunting a giant monitor lizard that showed up at a home in Florida and it wont go away.
Zach Liebermans wife spotted the creature by the patio door of the familys home in Davie.
She started screaming and Im thinking, Whats going on?, Lieberman told CBS Miami. He took a look at the creature by the door and went around the house to shoo the large lizard away. But the reptile turned the tables on him.
He followed me. He followed me from right here all the way out to the front of my house, Lieberman said of the lizard that wasnt backing down.
Monitor lizards are known to be aggressive, have sharp teeth and claws. They can even knock a small animal like a raccoon, cat, or dog unconscious with its powerful tail and swallow them whole.
It didnt occur to me how dangerous he really was and how close an encounter I was actually getting into until after the fact, Lieberman said. He estimates the lizard is more than 6 feet long and weighs well over 100 pounds. one Florida home, has left Lieberman fearful of going outside.

Invasive species. A 12-gauge would work just fine.
The versatility of a 12 gauge can solve most any wildlife problem in North America.
With a last name like Lieberman and living in south Florida, the odds are that they are very liberal and live in a gun-free house. I agree 12 ga with 00 buck or hard-cast slugs like Brenneke would solve the problem.
Keep us posted on this. I really want to ‘monitor’ the situation...
Perfect. Love it.
As much as the family may not like it, they may be better off moving into a motel until this is resolved. Pay a few people to stay at the house for a week, set traps, lie in wait during the night. Worse comes to worst, they may have to move. I’ve heard of snakes taking over a house the same way.
They may live deep into the earth and have lived there for decades. A monitor lizard that size could bite the children severely.
He sure dropped off the radar, is he still alive? Is he going to be buried next to McCain?
That must be it, a six foot long lizard!
“Is he going to be buried next to McCain?”
HAHAHA I hope so.
Good one! Made me LOL!
Don’t need no buck or slugs for a big lizard. Birdshot at 5 yards would do just fine.
Those folks will just have to weather the lizard for now.
Any Komodo Dragon in Florida? Septicemia from a bite.
12 ga. and #4 buckshot, first shot to stop, second to finish. Really good on animals invading a home. Two legs or four. Who gives a f???
Komodos are not native to that state, but the way people collect and dispose of exotic pets these days, the status can change very quickly. Discarded pets are what brought pythons to Florida.
That lizard followed the homeowner in a threatening way.
It was like spotting a Thug in your driveway. The Thug advances toward you as he asks in a loud voice: “Yo! Are you looking for somebody?”
It could also be an exotic pet that was discarded and it just expects to be fed. But how would you know?
Now I know what to call my mosseburg 500. Its now my loose exoctic pet trap.
