Thomas the Tank Engine has had a team of multicultural female trains join the Steam Team in an equality overhaul. The new series of the childrens animated show Thomas and Friends will see the beloved locomotive leave his home in Sodor to travel the world for the first time. Now called Thomas And Friends: Big World! Big Adventures!, the new series also marks the first collaboration between a childrens TV programme and the United Nations to promote the Sustainable Development Goals.
For the first time Thomas will discover new countries and cultures by travelling to China, India and Australia.
The changes mark the biggest relaunch the brand has had in its 73-year history and were unveiled at a premiere at Baftas headquarters in London.

At least he’s not Trans. When he becomes Thomas the Trans Train, we stop watching.
UN again. That dang John Bolton had one dang job to do 10 years ago and failed miserably.
What? Now I suppose we will learn that Pooh is a transgender bicurious cisgender bear!
The two new locomotives are an Aussie and an Indian. (Dots, not feathers.) The Indian is actually sort of lovely and does reflect the postcolonial diversity of the UK in a charming way.
40% of the Thomas audience is female so it’s not such a silly move.
You may thank your lucky stars that the new locomotive isn’t “Aisha the Palestinian Freedom Fighter” who blows up tracks and trestles, cheers at derailments and claims granaries “in the name of Allah and against Percy, the Zionist Entity.”
That would make her, not a fantasy character, but a Londoner.
Running a train, yer doin’ it wrong...
Thomas is a blue talking train. What culture is he?
They should make the female characters “tunnels” and let the male trains enter them.
Same reason that you drive on a parkway and park in a driveway.
