Scientists now believe the earth is in for a big freeze due to the sun being totally void of sunspots for more than half of 2018. The sun has been completely free of sunspots for a total of 133 days this year, scientists are reporting.

As I understand it, sunspots are cooler areas on the surface of the sun. That's why they are darker. So how is their absence a predictor of solar cooling?

My dad help create the center pivot irrigation systems that blanket the bread basket of Kansas. I fondly remember going out on projects in the 70’s with him. He wasnt a scientist, only graduated the 8th grade before having to go to work to help support his family. But was a master machinest and mechanical engineer, knew about sun dogs, atmospheric phenomenon, 7-11 year cycle of sun spots and how they effected our weather and on and on.

Easy. Climate change works both ways. Sometimes it gets warmer, and sometimes it gets colder. The only thing man has to do with it is how it is perceived.

As a farmer, I worry about the weather all the time. As a student of history and historical weather patterns and events, I have always laughed my a$$ off when I see Al Gore or hear a rant about AGW (now conveniently changed to ACC). As a sarcastic Conservative, I can't help but mock the situation at hand: we have a bunch of loonies crying about terrorists muslims fleeing their homelands, attacking people, and burning cars because of global warming...now we can look forward to the rational that they are at war with the world because of global cooling.
The witch hunt is par for the course with people who do not understand why something bad has happened and need a scapegoat OR when people did not get something they wanted (land, love, THE PRESIDENCY) and cry "witch" hoping to get them stoned, burned, hanged, drown...doesn't matter, as long as the "witch" is out of the picture. Same as it ever was.

With the sun being as flat as the earth, made of molten steel, chrome and nickle it is highly magnetic. The dark spots magnetically attract to the negative side of the sun (the other side) which becomes more frigidly cold than dark side of Uranus. The concentration of extreme cold forces the heat to the visible side of our star and the planetary lens formed by the orbits of Mercury and Venus focus 99.98% of the extra energy directly at our planet. Unless we can figure out how to flip our planet over and let the sun shine on the bottom side.....we’re doomed.

I thought the coldest & longest winter ever recorded (1816?) was the result of a volcanic eruption spewing ash into the atmosphere which blocked incoming sunlight.

The Farmers’ Almanac is predicting a “colder-than-normal” winter from the Continental Divide on eastward, with “teeth-chattering” cold arriving in mid-February in the Northeast, Great Lakes, and even into the Southeast.
