Gérard Depardieu, a French actor, was accused of rape and sexual assault by a woman to whom he was said to be offering professional guidance.
A unnamed woman, aged 22, filed a criminal complaint against Depardieu, 69, claiming he sexually assaulted her on August 7 and August 13, Holland-based news agency BNO News reports, citing French officials and sources speaking to Le Parisien newspaper.
“I regret the public nature of this process which poses a major prejudice to Gerard Depardieu, whose innocence I am convinced will be [recognized],” Depardieu’s lawyer Herve Termime told AFP News.
The lawyer noted that Depardieu “absolutely denies any attack, any rape.”
Termime’s office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Accusations are meaningless to me. I am only interested in convictions. Unfortunately, the media and most of their dumbed-down audience likes the sensationalism of accusations, which may be true or may be completely and totally unfounded.
I wish the media could only report convictions and sentences, not indictments.

In Amsterdam “sexual assault” may mean “not paying the bill”.
He said it couldn’t be him. “Some one must have it in for me!!”, he protested.
I too worked for a large corp. About 20 years ago, a friend of mine was summoned to Humanless Resources. He had to respond to a complaint of sexual innuendo against him.
It seems he was walking back from lunch when he passed his admin aid (of 20 years!) and one of her friends walking the other direction. As they passed, he said jokingly "Well there's a pair to draw to!" (an oft used poker based term, for those of you in Rio Linda, as Rush would say).
After years and years of working together, knowing him and his humor, his admin took that as a sexual comment about her boobs, not about her and her friend walking.
A letter went into his file and that was the end of his career. He was black balled (can I say that???) by many women in the organization
