"No one can possibly be so stupid."

True statement only if you exclude everyone who voted for "she who represents evil"...

I saw some research which showed a negative correlation between the cost of the wedding and the longevity of the marriage.

Makes sense. Somebody with visions of a fantasy princess wedding will not be satisfied for long with a mere mortal for a husband.

I'll substantiate your data a little more. I remembered seeing her as a cute little girl on the playground in elementary school in the early 1960's. I was a class ahead of her. I moved away with my family and finally returned about eight years later.

I was fortunate enough to have been invited on a blind date with her. The "blind date" was to see a play at Berry College on May 3rd and we married June 28th. Long engagements are for wimps. The guy that fixed us up had shown me her photograph and suggested that I might remember her from elementary school, so it was not totally a blind date.

When I got back to my parents house after our date I told my dad that night, I was going to marry her. It was not like we were total strangers, because we lived in a very small rural community.

Our wedding was at her sister's house with only my parents and her parents invited. Her sister was her matron-of-honor and her sister's husband was my best man. We have been together 44 years and I suspect this may last a while longer.

As far as I am concerned we did it the right way. Our honeymoon was one night at the Holiday Inn and back to work the next day. My daughter, although they picked a more pricey and scenic venue, also only invited immediately families for her wedding.

I see your point. I have been pulled in like you at funerals. Personally I would just like not attend either.

My dream wedding would be on the beach at Gulf Shores, Orange Beach or Dauphin Island with just Family and friends. Tasteful but inexpensive.

Of course, with my luck, a hurricane would probably hit on the wedding day.

And if one wanted music for their wedding, I bet this gentleman would play for a reasonable fee.

The only challenge would be keeping a straight face (which I couldn’t).

Yet another story about psychopaths in America... totally self-centered and completely devoid of empathy. You KNOW that if she were asked to kick in for someone else’s wedding to the tune of $1500, the f-bombs would fly.

When are normal people going to realize they are POOR, maybe working poor, but normal everyday people do not have $15,000.00 weddings and definitely NOT $60,000.00 weddings. There are so many other ways to have a nice inexpensive wedding without spending huge amounts of money. People just need to be creative and expectations need to be realistic rather then multi-millionaire-delusional.

Read my post again and saw I didn’t put NOT before $60,000.
