a 10yo does not have a mature enough brain to 'know' that the teacher was not serious when threatening violence. And in fact, violence was acted out by causing the child to fill a page with the word 'ma'am' and then the definition, as if it were a dirty word - during class, extending the ridicule and harassment the entire class period. Fire the teacher and don't let her work with children again. She can move to Canada and try to destroy their culture instead.

If it’s good enough for the Queen of England, it should be good enough for a public school teacher.

First time, you use the name (Mrs. or Miss etc.), and subsequently as “ma’am”.
