A 24-year-old homeless woman wrestled to free herself from an alligator after the animal attacked and tried to drag her underwater as she swam in Floridas Lake Hernando early on Wednesday, PEOPLE confirms.
Felicitie Gillette was swimming in the Citrus County lake around 1 a.m. when a 5- to 6-foot alligator grabbed her by her left arm and attempted to drag her underwater, according to a statement from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. She was able to fight off the alligator and called 911.
It came up out of nowhere and attacked, Gillette said in a frantic 911 call released to PEOPLE by the Citrus County Sheriffs Office. Im freaking out.
She told the dispatcher that the alligator swam away but was probably nearby, according to ABC News. She wrapped a towel around her bleeding arm and the dispatcher instructed her on how to stop the bleeding.
She was taken to Ocala Regional Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the FWC.(snip)
The night following the incident, a trapper removed a pair of alligators, one nearly 7 feet and the other almost 8 feet long from the lake, a spokesperson for the FWC tells PEOPLE.

Yep.
Nice post, I hope so too.
she claims to be homeless and the lake is about 5 miles from me a place many homeless hang out on the picnic area and bathe in the lake at night. then hang out all day taking turns panhandling at the traffic corner to buy their cigs and beer then hang around at night. The lake is large and many gators are in it. It didn’t come out of nowhere there are many grassy islands near the swimming area they will hang out in the weeds looking for water birds or fish and if a human is stupid enough to swim at night or bathe chances are you will be attacked. common sense rules.
Normally they also know you don’t go swimming in the early morning before the sun rises or late in the afternoon and evening. 4 PM is when feeding time begins in the swamp and it goes through most of the night.
Hunt these dinosaurs to extinction.
Not 2 AM...1 AM...
Saw him perform that on TV waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back.
How far back? He was on The John Byner Show when he did it.
It IS possible that Skynet sent the alligator back through the time displacement equipment.
Too bad there aren’t any phone booths with phone books any more.
Weapons grade stupid swimming in gator country at 1 am.
She exudes a stoner vibe, and also, she’s fat.
If I found a stinky bum in my lake, I’d be mad.
I note that even though she is a wastrel with no redeeming qualities, she possesses a cell phone. Who paid for that?
“It came out of nowhere”
yeh they’ll do that.
Sneaky rascals the are. If you hear a clock ticking..........
