Star Wars actor Adam Driver is bringing his northern Indiana hometowns hate group history to light after saying Ku Klux Klan rallies were frequent during his childhood and that some of his neighbors were Klan members. The Mishawaka native made the comments during a USA Today interview about his role in the new movie BlacKkKlansman, the Indianapolis Star reported.
If anything, I was more aware of it as a kid growing up in Indiana, because there were always Klan rallies, like, every summer, Driver, 34, told USA Today. There were people in the Klan who were in our neighborhood.
Indiana University professor emeritus James Madison said he doesnt doubt that Driver was exposed to the KKK but doubts he saw many, if any, rallies.

True. I do believe the KKK was more religious in the 20’s. Being anti-black was not the big issue of the Klan. More like Protestants putting down others.
"...forty-five of them work for the FBI..."
The indianapolis Red Star is having a field day with this claiming somebody went and googled news articles showing that there were klan rallies every weekend and how it’s all TROOOO!!!
Yeah - I’ve lived here most of my life - it’s BS and this is nothing more than propaganda to promote his movie. Yes there were some Klan rallies in the 80s, on the order of about once a year during the David Duke era. There was no flag burning, there was no lynching, there were no incidents.
I can also point to far, FAR more incidents of racism by the minorities of Indianapolis that were buried or never reported and I’ve never, EVER, met a klansman here. Met some Free Masons tho...
Klan rallies... In Indiana... In 1998...
Sorry, I don’t buy it. There might have been the odd Kluxxer out it the boondocks, but I don’t buy that there was any kind of organized Klan activity in Indiana in 1998.
Now, Illinois... That is another matter.
I hate Illinois Nazis!
I live in Indiana and this guy is a lying attention hog.
It's like if a child hits you with their fist moving at 5 miles an hour it doesn't ‘hurt’... but a 3,000 pound car hitting you at 5 mph can do a lot of damage.
When the KKK was backed by folks like Democrat Robert Byrd and Democrat Lyndon Johnson it was an evil force and hard to reckoned with... By 1983 when it's 5 losers from Joe's Snack Shack - - it's a joke.
Complete Bullshit! I am 60 and grew up in Birmingham Al and never saw a KKK rally, meeting or even knew a KKK member. I m sure there were some KKK members still around but they were not vocal or out in the open.
Back then there was FBI and there was massive KKK parade in Washington, DC, too.
"You mean like Democrats?"
He was born in 1983. Those were Reagan years.
I lived in Indiana when I was a kid. My mom was born in Indiana. But I had an Amish neighbor. My sister went to Indiana State in Terre Haute.
Probably his next door neighbors used to beat this weirdo up and hes just being vindictive.
The KKK is a Democrat organization.
Remember the picture of the Charleston church shooter at the “KKK rally” that was used nearly every minute in certain media for weeks after that tragic event?
There was the shooter, and ZERO people in the background in attendance. That adds up to one solitary nutjob, not a movement or an organization.
churches
I kinda doubt there were KKK rallies in the late 1980’s anywhere. His leftist parents probably told him any Republican get together was a KKK event.
By the eighties, any purported rally would have been entirely made up of government informants looking to see who else they could entrap into showing up.
Ditto. I’ve lived in Indiana since the 1970s and have never seen one.
The sad fact is that there was a klan presence here back in the early 20th. Formed after WW I.
Well, thank goodness that Republican senator from West Virginia who was an admitted Klan member is no longer with us. All Republicans are racists.
Oh, wait...
