WAKE COUNTY, NC (WTVD) -- One hundred ninety-eight miles per hour!
It's how fast a driver in Wake County got up to last month on US-1 near the Triangle Expressway.
William Jefferson, 22, was behind the wheel -- he has since been charged with street racing and reckless driving.
Only on #ABC11 the wild video of a street racing stunt in wake county. If you can believe it, the car got up to 198 MPH! @NCSHP pic.twitter.com/7kL4vBqSju Josh Chapin (@JoshChapinABC11) August 17, 2018
"It's one reason why I don't want my kids on the roads late at night," said Maryanne McAdams, a mother from Holly Springs. "I don't have a driver yet --we're about a year away but it's that kind of stuff that makes me really nervous."
North Carolina State Highway Patrol said somebody sent them the seven-minute YouTube clip as part of a complaint.
The video shows Jefferson in his Dodge Challenger "Hellcat" driving nearly 130 mph over the speed limit on US-1. In addition, the video shows Jefferson take the car over 100 in a 40 mph zone.
The clip starts with the car doing "doughnuts" in a parking lot before moving to a clip of Jefferson with his hood open at a nearby Sheetz.
"I don't think that road is particularly dangerous but anybody going 198 mph and it's going to be particularly dangerous," McAdams said. "It's really a miracle that nobody was hurt or killed in that."
Jefferson has a clean record except for a few traffic violations.
If Clinton had a son......
Without reading the article, I knew it was a Dodge Challenger Hellcat.
Wish I was about 40 years younger & about $100,000 richer.
Its in the very short story: Dodge Challenger Hellcat, 700+ horsepower, $65k.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
where did he steal it?
“707 horsepower cars for sale to anyone who can afford them and yet they want to ban my AR15.”
I got to take a BMW R100RR out for a ride this spring. An incredible machine! With nearly 200HP it top ends about the same as this car and will smoke it in the quarter mile (9.80 sec. @ 148.89 mph. Vs 11.7 seconds at 125.4 mph.) Some 18 year old can wobble around the DMV parking lot a few times and legally buy one of these. That’s really scary! I’m 64 and ride a Ducati. I’m fairly sure if I’d had one at that age I wouldn’t be here.
2018 Cadillac XTS, comes with 304 hp standard.
The XTS V series is 410
.
The BMW 7 series starts out at 320 hp and goes up to 601 in the Alpina

Those are high-end sports sedans. I’m talking about Altimas, Sonatas, Camrys, Fusions, etc. Cars for the masses.
Even in the “Muscle Car Era”, for every Charger with a 426 or 440, there were a hundred Chargers with a 318.
“Mr. Jefferson is a privileged status individual in an over-the-top liberal town. Hell go free with a very light tap on the wrist.”
Yep, they are waiting until he actually kills someone or maybe a whole family out for a drive. Then everyone is going to scream ‘Oh, why didn’t they do something?’ Any takers on my bet?

He enigma.
If you think everyone at Dodge isn’t smiling over this news, you’re only kidding yourself. It’s the best advertisement they never paid for. It’s no longer just an advertising slogan, someone has proved the production model of the car will do near as makes no difference 200 mph. Hellcat sales will jump dramatically.
He should’ve shouted “The pedal’s stuck! Unintended acceleration!” the whole time. I’ve also driven the Autobahn and never went over 160. I had my Harley over 100 and that was more than enough. Guess I’m a wuss.
He's 22 years old and he's already received 'a few' traffic violations? That's a clean record? LOL
Nope, just the phone distraction. Don’t go from the specific to the general. Also, just my opinion. Clearly.
Put the car in a crusher because it has total disregard for the road? How about if they just don’t allow cars with that kind of power to be street legal? Exactly where, other than a track is it safe to drive these cars? I mean I really like powerful cars, and I really like the way they look, but come on the only reason this guy had that car(how the hell does a twenty two year old afford it) is because he had a small dick and an even smaller brain.
Ha, I did the same. In addition to no roll cage I removed the seat belts, because I never used them. Didn’t occur to me the track would care lol
Willie might be a special courier raking in the Benjamins.
Back in the day, a friend of mine bought a Dodge Challenger because the seller showed him a speeding ticket he got for going 151 MPH.
