Animal shelter workers: We were forced to freeze kittens to death
NY Post ^ | August 13, 2018 | Chris Perez

Indiana cops are investigating a disturbing case of animal abuse, in which shelter workers allegedly euthanized kittens by freezing them alive.

Several ex-employees have come forward and claimed to have witnessed the cruel and inhumane procedure being performed at the Spencer County Animal Shelter on at least two different occasions.

This is about the sickest thing I have ever read. I know for a fact that a LOT of animal "shelters" utilize very cruel techniques to put down unwanted animals. Some southern shelters use a "heart stick" wherein employees, often untrained, stick a needle of euthanasia drug into the chest of a condemned animal, into their heart. It is a very very painful and terrifying way for dogs and cats to die. Some shelters gas them, with the condemned pets clawing madly and screaming to get out. I am sure there are even more ghastly ways that shelters, particularly the small town underfunded ones, kill their unwanted pets. But who could put baby kittens into a plastic bag and then into a freezer? This is just soul wrenching.

I hope that any and all people in charge of this slaughterhouse trying to pass itself off as a shelter (notice in the article that the employee who refused to kill the kittens in this heinous matter remarked that few adoptions seem to have taken place in this chamber of horrors) are thrown in jail for a long time. I hope they are among a population of animal lovers and that the guards look away. And I hope that should they survive the jail they so richly deserve, they are forever barred from any work with any animals, in any capacity.

Everyone involved in this should be locked up.

I’m curious: what is the proper way to put down an animal? I always thought a bullet to the head was relatively quick and humane, but I don’t really know...

Likely soulless inhumans killed them

Back in the sixties there was a shelter, in the lower part of SC or Southastern NC, that would take dogs out for a walk and shoot them in the back of the head with a 22 short. Quick, clean, and led to a public outcry with the shelter being shut down and several people being fined.

I don't see how a dog thinking it's out for a walk and not suspecting a thing dying instantly is horrible if it has to be euthanized. The powers that be do, though, but the horribly painful drugs they give animals seem to be Ok.

I don't understand that a bit.

“KittySicle Factory” isn’t funny. It’s making light of the animal abuse and the subhumans involved.

In this country it is legal to suck a baby out of its mother’s womb with with a wet/dry vac and we also euthanize thousands upon thousands of domestic animals per day.

In all of that, I am not sure which is the best way to euthanize a kitten, but freezers, throat slits, needles or gas all has the same results.

For us, the best answer is controlling the pet populations and there is where we are at fault.

“I am not sure which is the best way to euthanize a kitten”

Veterinarians euthanise animals humanely all the time without resorting to knives, guns, freezers, or plastic bags. It’s really not rocket science. Pet shelters or “humane societies” should be using humane procedures. We can’t control all of the animals in the world but when we assume responsibility for thier care (or thier deaths), there are certainly humane procedures and have been for many years.

I’m not sure what the jog into the abortion mess is meant to imply. This thread isn’t about that subject.

Get a pet and have it neutered. Destroying things through our decadence is wrong. We as owners have responsibilities. If you can’t take care of the pet don’t get one. How to put an animal down is hard to deal with but remember how do U want to go down. Dead is dead. I hope I sit down and just fall asleep. That doesn’t happen often.

Let’s be more concerned about dead babies than dead kittens.

That is so true. Abortion is a scar on the human race. Babies have rights. Great point.

When it comes to animal cruelty, let the punishment fit the crime.

“I hope I sit down and just fall asleep. That doesn’t happen often.”

That’s the way one of my grandfathers went.

He was one of those guys that did it all right, immigrated to this country as a child, supported his family in the old country, raised a family here, had a great business, gave to his community and church, was friends with a president, retired at 50 and died in his easy chair at 85.

I’m getting up there. It’s a thought that enters your mind. I’ve outlived several pets and have a 3 year old rescue dog, a rescue mule, 3 rescue cats, and an old paint horse. Only dog I’ve got not a rescue is my pup (a kelpi/border collie cross). I’ve had to put animals down. The job sucks. As I get older I have resorted to having the vet do it. Fast and as painless as possible is my thought. Abortions of children is a crime. Takeing a pet down humanely is a tough job and may be good to leave to a good vet. I ain’t proud or macho when doing a pet euthanasia myself but I owe a close friend some comfort.

Putting them to sleep is the most humane way. One drug to sedate, one to stop the heart. They are all heartbreaking. Its bad enpugh when they have to put one down because they are too ill to save.

Long time ago when I did a little ranching we usually used a bullet to brain box, sometimes frangible s depending on surface area. Later I worked with a vet and we gave then a medical concoction( injectable) and they felt no pain, just went to sleep. Either one is efficient. Sorry to kitties lovers but ranches and farms get inundated with stray kitties; have to so something.

If those were human fetuses, the media’s opinion would switch 180 degrees.

“...ranches and farms get inundated with stray kitties...”

Why? Do people dump them outside of cities? Or are there that many ferals?
