Pearce is willing to reach across the aisle (NM Gov race, Endorsed by former Dem Gov)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | August 12, 2018 | Jerry Apodaca / Former New Mexico Governor

Posted on 08/12/2018 5:42:14 PM PDT by CedarDave

These past years I have sat on the sidelines very quietly enjoying life with family and friends, observing from a distance. I know the new politicians of the 21st century don’t need my advice. But friends recently suggested I sit down with both gubernatorial candidates to discuss the concerns I outlined above. I agreed to but didn’t expect anyone to call.

I never heard from Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham.

I did receive a call from Congressman Steve Pearce. I was surprised how open he was and how we agreed on about 80 percent of the issues that plague New Mexico. I found him to be straightforward and an honest man. In fact, he reminded me of the moderate Democrats and Republicans of the past I worked with for the betterment of New Mexico. Leaders like Harold Runnels, D.; Joe Skeen, R.; Pete Domenici, R. ... We all worked together for the good of our state.

From my perspective, the current leaders of the Democratic Party have forgotten this history and heritage of our great state. They have forgotten about the JFK Democrats and Hispanic communities around the state.

Congressman Pearce is the only candidate willing to reach out across party lines and work with Democrats, Republicans and independents. That willingness to collaborate across party lines is exactly what New Mexico needs and it’s why I am endorsing Steve Pearce for governor.

If the Democratic Party is going to continue to grow and be strong for generations to come, it must include all New Mexicans. Sadly, its current leadership has forgotten that. That’s why I am asking my fellow JFK Democrats and all who believe in bipartisanship ... to rise and vote this election for candidates who will hear our voice, not the party that has pushed us away.

A very surprising and welcome endorsement. Jerry Apodaca served as New Mexico’s governor from 1975 to 1979. His son, Jeff Apodaca ran for the Democratic nomination for governor this year but lost to Lujan Grisham, a "progressive" liberal in the mode of Nancy Pelosi.

I’m sure most of the media will promptly ignore this. Apodaca is now the seniormost former Governor of NM. Turning the state over to Lujan Grisham and giving the state legislative Dems a blank check to turn it back to the bad old days of Free-Spending Phil Richardson would be a fiasco. It’s time for the 98-year old record of not electing back-to-back Republicans as Governor be broken and sending Steve Pearce to Santa Fe.

Last elected in the 1974 and he ran again in the Demonrat primary in 2018?

He must have been very young when he served those four years. How old is he now?

More and more Democrats are waking up to how far out there the party has become.

You obviously don’t know anything about Steve Pearce. He’s as solid as they come. And a Democrat endorsing him is probably a reflection of what a blistering idiot Michelle Lujan Grisham is. Her innate stupidity is probably only exceeded in Congress by Senator Murray from Washington State. Persol qualification for office is that her grandfather was a prominent New Mexico congressman. Democrats recognize that Gresham will be a Trainwreck

Pearce is a good guy, he replaced Joe Skeen in the HOR. If he was endorsed by Toney Anaya, I would be very worried.

It was his son who ran and lost.

Steve is a very good guy! He’s a former Air Force pilot, owns a beautiful little Mooney airplane and was a very successful business operator here in NM prior to saving us from a Democrat congressman and going to Washington as our congressman years ago. They don’t get any better or more estute than Steve Pearce.

I met Steve many years ago. The senior pastor of my church introduced me to him when he ran for Congress the first time. He and Steve were college roommates at NMSU. I always knew that he was a good guy.

Does the Republican have a good chance to win in this race?

Couldn't say. He's popular in his district, obviously, but NM is purple going blue anymore.

From what little local TV I've seen, Lujan-Grisham is running ads all over the place. Haven't seen a thing for Pearce. That's not saying much for me. I haven't watched local TV in months, and the last time I watched was during a really bad storm for any weather updates (about two weeks ago). During the 35-minute news broadcast, I saw at least 4 ads for Lujan-Grisham (maybe more), and none for Pearce.

"You obviously don’t know anything about Steve Pearce. "

You are correct, I personally or through experience do not...

However, the only factual firsthand data I have to go on is a demoncrat stating that: "...he reminded me of the moderate Democrats and Republicans of the past I worked with..."

This situation is similar to those Federal judge candidates who suspiciously, from a Constitutional view, get voted out of committee or on the Senate floor unanimously or by 78-to-22...

I'd like to accept your evaluation but I prefer to keep the prisoner in handcuffs until I can clearly perceive his motives...

Till then, we can only expect the worst from another RINO like Romney, McCain, or Collins...

Pete Domenici was a good man and senator.
Same caliber.
