[America was SO much better then. More literate, more historically educated, more patriotic. Ted Kennedy deserved to be strung up like Mussolini for what he did to destroy that nation with his 1965 abomination.]
I remember as a 14 year old kid in 1976, the Bicentennial was a lot of fun. There was revolutionary war stuff all over the place that you could go to. Military musters, etc. Surrounded by history everywhere. A real feeling of patriotism surrounded it all and the theme was everywhere. Even though we had Jimmy Idiot as president and the economy sucked.
mine too.....’65 and ‘67
I liked them then. I like them now. What’s not to like?
Oh man- John Havlichek and Julius Erving - two of the best all-time small forwards. Thanks for the pic (when the NBA was great)!
What do you mean used to?
Yeah, the black kids always wore two pair of socks with loose laced high tops that they never tied. Even some of the girls.
I hate short socks. I spend a decent amount of time in the outdoors. Mosquito’s, ticks and black flies go for the ankles. Socks prevent that.
I most often wear wool socks. They wick moisture better.
Darn Tough is my favorite brand. $25 for a pair of socks seems excessive but one pair is at least four years old with almost weekly wear.
A fad I remember for us girls in the 80’s, besides frivolous leg warmers, were those stirrup leggings or skinny jeans with socks pulled up over the pant leg, normally in a color matching our tops, which were sometimes “neon.”
You would have probably gotten no blisters if you had worn the wool socks under the long socks next to your skin. i never wore cotton socks in athletic endeavors....my mother, a world class athlete in her time, would not let me. I just returned from a trip to Australia and wore wool socks under my hiking boots in the Outback. Had no blisters even though my skin is thinner than it used to be. I’m over 80.
Unfortunately, wool socks of any length are difficult to find but Bass Pro Shops have them.

That’s one of the reasons I quit too....along with the ridiculous “showmanship” which has replaced Sportsmanship.
I avoid buying shorts that go below the knee, making the wearer look like a gang-banger.

Agreed! Red Head products are all good.
, pick on the super short hot pants worn in basketball in that era.

A great look for an athlete, sharp and clean instead of the kitchen-mop baggy scummy look of the stuff they wear today.
I played Varsity highschool BBall and College BBall and we girls wore short shorts too.
Thank you!
I’m partial to black ones with sandals. Preferably with all the elastic shot to heck!)
I was on vacation on Cape Cod a few weeks back and the missus introduced those tiny little ankle socks for me to wear, the ONLY socks she packed.
I told her i look and feel like a Twink in the them.
I was pretty pissed off.
Socks are now gone from my draw, maybe i’ll use them to buff wax or something in the future..
Basically I pulled pictures that resembled what I looked like during the 1970s era.
