Loads OK on my computer. Most should not have a problem.
wanna post a summary of 500 words or less for the great majority of us who don’t have the time to wade through this stuff?
No need to read the report in any detail. The four photos of the cracks were enough for me. I urge you to view them. Skip their commentary.
What I found interesting was that the photos of minor cracks we were shown about six months ago were taken before the bridge section was moved into position. News reports at the time made no mention of when they were taken. We were misled.
The four pics in this recent report, taken after the move, are quite alarming. That traffic was allowed to resume with such large faults in critical areas is criminal, in my opinion.
I agree, if I were on that job those cracks would have scared the crap out of me.
“I urge you to view them.”
i saw them a couple of days after the bridge collapsed when they were first published. Apparently still no official word as to whether or how significant the cracks were to the bridge collapse ... the cracks are external evidence of something going on inside the bridge structure ... but no one has yet said what that was ...
I would have evacuated all personnel, stopped traffic indefinitely, and brought in LOTS of shoring.
That kind of cracking is indicative of imminent structural failure.
Idiots
Heads are going to roll.
They tested the post-tension rods and did not find a problem. They tested the hydraulic tensioning device and its gauges and did not find a problem. They tested the concrete in several placed and did not find a problem. Looks like the officials are saying there is no problem. The bridge is actually still up there. Those who say it fell down are pushing fake news to divide us.
Actually, there is supposed to be grout filling the post-tensioning tubes (around the post-tensioning rod). This is to help transfer load from the rod to the concrete deck (unless things have changed since I retired). I have not heard of any testing there (or seen it in this report). It seems to me that that would be where the failure would be. Was the grout in there yet? Was it completely filled? Was it cured properly? Was it strong enough? There are no answers to that in this report.
Thanks for posting this, will help save lots of lives going forward.
