LONDON If you think pets are the pits, you may not be living to your potential. A new survey finds that people who own pets are happier, earn more money, and exercise more frequently than those who dont.
In a poll of 1,000 British dog and cat owners over 55 and 1,000 people in the same age group who dont have any pets, researchers calculated that pet owners were twice as likely to consider themselves a success. In fact, 9 in 10 owners agreed that their furry family members were good for their health and well-being. The belief makes sense: the survey showed that pet owners log nearly twice as much exercise, getting a good sweat about five times per week, versus just three time a week for the non-owners.

Pets rock. China and S Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia some of Africa SUCK.
Why would we be healthier?
Because our feline overlords insist on it.
Unfortunate to see you promoting life-threatening dogs when posting a thread about the health link to having dogs and cats.
I dont own my dog who happens to be an Australian Cattle dog/Border Collie mix.She owns me.
When she wants something she gets very demanding and she will bump you until she gets her way.

“But why would a cat owner be fitter?”
First of all, there are no cat owners. Rather, there are humans fated to wait on their cats hand and foot, such as myself. Lots of exercise. A sandpaper tongue licking my face is ample compensation for my efforts.
Ain’t it the truth. My dogs have me well trained too.
It’s unfortunate there are those who have an obsession about one breed of dog who has a tiny fraction of a percentage of being a biter. It’s unfortunate some dog owners are idiots. I would put down any dog I owned that showed itself to be a biter. It would hurt but it would have to be done.
There is a small percentage of the dog population with a screw loose who should be euthanized because they can’t be rehabilitated into being a non biter.
For every one “bad dog” there are thousands who are not yet you and the poster of those ugly dog biting threads focus like a laser beam on that one out of thousands.
That’s what is unfortunate.
Now go get yourself a dog and get some exercise.
You are really dense on this subject.
“Pet” pitbulls are all too commonly friendly until they turn on an owner or someone else and do irreparable damage.
When other breeds clearly have less frequent will and less way to do such harm, there is not a single good reason for a person on the planet not to have a more statistically benign pet.
Go Lurk somewhere else you dog-hating fool.
I am neither dog-hating nor a fool.
Those are great dogs!
Looks like heaven...
Exercise?
Your opinion is noted. Invalid; but noted.
Totally. The cats own us. Our 15 year old cat force pets us. Jumps in your lap and positions her head under your hand, and SHOVES HERSELF under the hand to simulate the petting until you get with the program.
If only you had a single, legitimate, counter-argument to offer. But of course you don’t.
Uh, wake up, smell the coffee, I already explained your point is invalid due to the tiny fraction of dogs involved.
Why do you dog haters have to infect every single dog thread with your hate and ignorance?
Rhetorical question. You all have this insane obsession. Get help. And for God’s sake; take your meds!
The percentage of pitbulls involved is not minuscule.
And why introduce that completely unnecessary risk? Absolutely zero reason—and no reason for local communities to allow the risk to be imposed on others.
Boo. Did you just shart yourself? Being afraid and ignorant is a terrible way to go through life.
And yes; it’s a tiny fraction. You should really educate yourself before coming on here and embarrassing yourself like this.
The really sad thing about you haters is you never look farther than the surface. All you go by is a very limited report made by someone equally ignorant as yourself. You don’t even bother to ask what caused a normally friendly dog to change its behavior. You just paint it as another statistic. Sad.
I have 4 dogs around me this very instant. Together or individually they could tear me apart but they don’t because I treat them with respect and affection. Something I think didn’t happen when these dog attacks you spoke of occurred.
The problem is bad people 99% of the time; not bad dogs. I’ve already stated there is a small percentage of dogs with a screw loose. Sadly those dogs must be euthanized as soon as it’s known they are like that. It sucks but it’s the right thing to do; both for them and their owner. I would also never leave a baby or toddler unattended with any large dog. Never. Would you kill all dogs because of this? You better dig your own grave first.
Until you accept these facts you will be stuck in ignorant land.
