First-ever election win for pit bull advocates
SPRINGFIELD, Missouri––Out-spending voices for animal and human safety by a margin perhaps as high as $10,000 to $1.00, pit bull advocates on August 7, 2018 celebrated their first-ever defeat of a pit bull ban in a municipal general election.
Reversing the outcome of earlier attempts to repeal pit bull bans in Miami-Dade County, Florida, and Aurora, Colorado, pit bull advocates in Springfield, Missouri polled at least 21,142 votes, or 68% of the votes cast, against 9,772 votes (32%) for the ban.
Older breed-specific ordinance remains in effect
Opened Question 1 on the Springfield primary election balloti:
“Shall the City of Springfield establish a future ban upon the possession of new pit bull dogs within the City limits by prohibiting acceptance of any new pit bull registrations and only allowing renewals of existing current pit bull dog registrations?”
Though the proposed ban on new pit bull registrations was rejected, the election result does not mean the end of breed-specific legislation in Springfield.
Still in effect is a pit bull registration ordinance enacted in 2006, which requires the owners of pit bulls and pit bull mixes to have them microchipped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and identified with a registration tag which must be worn at all times.
The language of the proposed Springfield pit bull ban, meant to strengthen the 2006 ordinance, was approved 5-4 by the city council in November 2017.

While I’m fine with prohibiting exotic and wild animals in a city-all those pythons certainly weren’t exactly beneficial to the ecological balance in Florida-I do have a problem with banning any breed of plain vanilla domestic pet-bird, cat, dog rabbit whatever-that is just a door to banning any person or thing enough people don’t like-I’ll bet real money that sooner or later, after they’ve banned every dog on the stupid “bad dog” list, they will be banning pets above a certain weight-everyone must have a Yorkie, Chihuahua, Rat Terrier-and no more Maine Coon or Persian “type” cats or Belgian Hare-type rabbits-too big! They might scratch or bite! What is next-ban Macaws and other large parrots? They can damn near bite off a finger-or nose...
I’ve only had one dog that was not on the “bad dog” list-an Aussie Shepherd, that was over 25 years ago. Never had a problem with either of my German Shepherds, my Chow or my Siberian Husky-all are supposedly bad dogs-mine were protective guard dogs and also very well behaved and trained...

You seem to be under a misconception that
reputable owners of ‘pit bulls’ acquire their dogs from breeders that specifically breed to deliver attack, mauling, and death (as an activity illegal in all 50 states).
With all due respect, that’s a ridiculous notion.
Believe it or not, there are actually a plethora of breeders that breed to enhance the good qualities of ‘pit bulls’,
Stability, Temperament, Confirmation and in turn sell them only to responsible owners that have done their due diligence
and are prepared to care for the dogs as Free Individuals cognizant of the Responsibilities that Ownership entails.
Sometimes if one is looking for ‘black’ that is what one will find.
but sometimes...
if you turn the paper over and give the other side an honest look, you may see ‘white’.

Nope. That would reinforce your sad misguided belief that Pit's and the rest of the Bully Breeds are the problem. They are not. The problem is how people treat and raise their dogs; all dogs. They must be socialized and learn discipline. Perhaps you could benefit from the same thing.
