Unfortunately, most of these alternative OSes have been abandoned since the article was originally posted.

KaiOS is making a lot of waves lately. But Google is trying to get their hooks into it.
I only wish people didn’t so actively crap on all of these alternatives over the past decade because they saw a brand logo as some extension of themselves. We ended up losing great platforms that would have kept the power out of the hands of Apple and Google.
Instead of 7 OSs in competition, we have 2 in collusion.

Yup. I really wanted HP's system to stay alive. Apple, Google, Microsoft (and this includes companies that collude with Google like Ubuntu) want your data, and they want to track you. I just wanted a touchscreen browser and email client that fits in my pocket.

Didn’t you read that the Ubuntu Touch has an enhanced emoji keyboard?
I repeat. AN ENHANCED EMOJI KEYBOARD.

Still have my Windows 10 Mobile hereI still have my phone, but it sits unused now. I loved that OS, it was snappy even on lesser hardware. Android is a resource hog. I have an S9+, and I would still go back to Win 10 mobile if a modern one was sold.
