Comedian Michelle Wolf has had quite the year. Her HBO special, Nice Lady, proved shes one of today's best standups. Then, whether you loved it or hated it, she made her mark as the featured guest at the White House Correspondents Dinner.
On top of that, Wolf, 33, just wrapped up the first 10 episodes of her new Netflix show The Break, which is a half hour of sketches, late-night show desk segments, and her cutting standup on news and politics.
But when she needs her own break from writing a weekly comedy show or preparing for a set on the road, Wolf searches out trails and running routes to clear her head or work through a bit that just isnt coming to her. In fact, the Hershey, Pennsylvania, native completed her first ultramarathona 50-milerin May. This is after taking time off from running after college and picking it back up only a few years ago.
Its very important for me to fit running in when Im very busy, Wolf told Runners World by phone. When I dont do it for a couple days I feel off, and I dont think I perform as well.
Wolf spoke about her transition from middle-distance track and jumping in college to becoming a devoted distance runner, the key thing she loves having in her office, and why ultrarunning makes her feel like a badass.
Runners World: Why do you run?
Michelle Wolf: Sometimes I do it to relax my mind. Other times I do it just to pump myself up, and other times Ill be writing and Ill have a roadblock. Ill just go for a run, and Ill think about it while Im on the run. A lot of times I end up figuring it out. . .

What comedy? The woman has a voice like nails on a chalkboard and most of her “jokes” are just thinly veiled hate.
“a devoted distance runner”
Every time she looks in a mirror she probably runs away in panic.
She will be writing and have a roadblock? Really? She sits and writes and thinks about the filth that comes out of her mouth? The filth she spews is the result of a deliberate thought process?
Love him or hate him, Charles Manson made his mark on LA’s entertainment scene.
That’s a lousy standard for fame.
She is a very sick and disordered soul. Her God is the Dark One.
Meh. Most ultramarathoners are weak wimps. Yes, they can run and run, but most can barely load suitcases in the car. Also very subject to knee and hip damage over time.
Finally, the word comedian should not be associated with this particular individual.
So ultrarunning makes her feel like a badass and her show makes her look like a jackass. Somehow appropriate.
She is as funny as Bernadine Dorhn.
Can you dig it? They killed those pigs and ate their dinner!
Bad and ass...how appropriate.
If she is having bad ass maybe she needs a colostomy bag.
Kind of makes sense though, relieving her bad ass clears her head.
The knee replacement surgeries tend to suck.
It gives her diarreha of the mouth
I was severely disappointed when she turned out to be a whacko.
I was a runner, but mostly 5k's, never more than a half-marathon. Ultramarathoners tend to be exceptionally lean, for obvious reasons. You don't carry extra weight for 50-100 miles. Most males weigh about 120-130 pounds. I don't care how fit you are, in any physical confrontation, any dad-bod 200-240 pound male will snap any 120 pounder in half, with minimal effort.
I'm 230, and a decade or two removed from any physical efforts (was 185 when I was barely active in my 30s). I have zero fight training, and yet I would not fear for a moment getting in a ring with even professional boxers or MMA guys in the straw weight (115) or flyweight (125) divisions. Most 120# runners offer virtually zero physical threat to any average male. I would show more caution facing off against a typical 7th grade soccer player.
Yes, given our sin nature, you would think that sort of thing would be much easier for her to do.
Well, Ms. Wolf hasn’t killed anybody . . . yet.
Must be time to revisit the hot/crazy matrix.
