Two more little critters entered the world today. They were long anticipated, but at last they're here. They are my Tucson Banded Gecko babies.
A tiny nocturnal species, TBGs have wide variation in their markings, but are generally a vanilla yellowish background color with chocolate colored transverse bands and chocolate colored spots. They are up to 5 inches in total length, of which up to half may be tail. Their range includes Arizona, New Mexico, and parts of northern Mexico. Their scales are so tiny that you really can't make them out farther than a couple inches, giving the lizard a smooth appearance. They lift their tails off the ground when walking, like a lady in long skirts traversing a muddy street. And if you touch or disturb them, they squeak like a little mouse!
Here is a typical adult:
And here are my two new babies. Notice the one still struggling to free itself of the leathery reptilian eggshell. The unhatched egg is from a later clutch.
Congratulations, proud parents!
Are they both insured through Geico?
Non smoker rates, I would presume.
Congratulations on a healthy delivery!!
Should see my house, it is infested with geckos, sitting in my kitchen right now I can see 3 on the walls. The eat lots of insects, but then leave their deposits all over the place.
But as we say, TIT which means This Is Thailand.
When I first saw the leadline, I thought it said “Two Headed Gecko!”. Glad I was wrong, but it did make me click faster than I otherwise would have.

I remember the first time I picked one up and heard it squeak. I had never heard a lizard make a sound.
I Feel like a Grandfather!
Thanks.

Adorable! CUTE! DELICIOUS, mmmm
I’ve lived in Arizona for 30 years and I’ve seen a lot of those cool geckos around my patio night lights. .
Congratulations!
Congratulations!
Introduce us, what are their names?
What are your plans for their future?
What do you feed them?
Lord, they’re cute.
Cool.
Make sure that you sign them up for the WICs (Wiggly Insectavore Crawly-things) program....oh, wait, it’s only in California that lizards qualify for gov’t benefits.
We have gecko’s at our house in town. They collect bugs from outside of the translucent pane of our front door at night. Not sure where they nest. I ignore then, but my wife is afraid of them. They are amazing bug collectors.
Ours don’t have stripes. We don’t collect them.
How beautiful!
