After a pregnant writer lambasted selfish men: I dare not offer my train seat to a woman
UK Daily Mail ^ | August 2, 2018 | Nick Booth

Posted on 08/02/2018 6:45:42 AM PDT by C19fan

In Femail magazine a couple of weeks ago, Natasha Pearlman, who is eight months pregnant, wrote about how shocked she had been by the lack of consideration now given to pregnant women by men in Britain, especially on public transport.

A man had been rude to her for walking too slowly and holding him up as she made her way through a London Tube station, and he wasn’t the least bit remorseful either when she confronted him over it.

She also recounted a recent experiment carried out by a blogger who wore a fake pregnancy bump to test how many people would offer her a seat. Not many was the conclusion.

This is so stupid but so true.
At 6’5” I almost ALWAYS tell an average size woman that I’ll get that package, box, or can from the TOP shelf at the market. Often 2 or 3 times a trip.
It is dismaying seeing the faces of many younger women who look as though they are about to be physically assaulted. Several times, older women are amazed , “My goodness, a living, breathing GENTLEMAN. Thank you”
One poor woman, rejecting my aid, tried to pull the bottom can from an upper shelf and brought the entire display down on her own head. I did NOT go back to assist.

I thought men and women were the same. I thought gender was assigned at birth and subject to change any time.
I thought men can be pregnant. I thought men are evil and mean, even though there is no such thing as a man.

Which wacko leftist dogma must we adhere to? I’m confused.

Even in blue state NJ and men commonly hold the door for me; I smile and say thank you.

They’ve changed tires for me and even put oil in my car so I didn’t get dirty.

God bless gallant men. The dance of the sexes can be a delightful thing.

“I only open doors or hold them for elderly.

They remember..................”

Well, until a certain age they do.

I, being 64 and female, would always always offer my seat to a pregnant woman...

the fact that men would not immediately offer their seat says alot about our snowflake selfish culture...

you know, there's a lot of buffoon women out there....there's a lot of buffoon men...

real men and real women carry on with good manners and consideration and not let feminazis/misogynist call the shots...

stop playing into pop culture and lets be the men and women we're supposed to be....

And they get upset that you don’t understand why they are upset.

Here in the rural South it’s a bit different. Another gentleman and I tried to enter a fast food place at the same time. We each grabbed a door and insisted that the other go first. It was a standoff for a few seconds until I smiled at him a said, “I’ve got all day”.

He caved and went first, therefore I won. I love the South.

Not ALL women........I am mid-60’s, need two new knees and walk with a cane. Just in the past few days I have experienced much of the ignorance/selfishness displayed by people. Both men and women. My most recent experience was when I was walking slowly to a store and a middle aged man ran to get past me, opened the door of the store for himself and then pulled it shut so I couldn’t benefit. Some doors are very heavy to open and I often find myself opening the door and stepping halfway in to hold it open with my body. Then I can situate my cane to keep my balance as I enter the store. Both men and women could use a chivalry lesson, but our schools are much more concerned with Leftist political indoctrination. And yes, while visiting Britain several months ago, the behaviors were the same as here. And Britain used to be so much nicer.

Ain’t that the truth!
Him: “What is the matter, Honey?”
Her: “Nothing.”

I try to practice the “Golden Rule” and treat others as I’d like to be treated...Or would wish strangers to treat my mother, wife or daughter in similar circumstance...

How they respond is on them, and just let it go...Life’s too short to let rudeness get to you...Your approach is a good one...

regarding his offer to help the young mom going down the stairs with a buggy..... I would not have let a stranger “help” me take my baby and her buggy down steps, or anywhere else.
People steal babies. I would have done it myself.

“They were supervising Scouts, while I was on a break. It was much more appropriate for them to stay in their roles, although the offer was kind.”

While I agree with you on the polite acceptance or declining of offered help I say you missed a golden opportunity with those supervising the Scouts.
Had you accepted their help and politely thanked them they would have had a great example to show their young wards.

Had I been supervising the Scouts I would have had several politely help you with your gear and explained to them that is how things are done in a polite society.

At the same time I can understand your point. Even a small number of young’uns on a camping trip need near constant supervision.

They showed “A Scout is courteous,” but I just think that wasn’t the best time to demonstrate “A Scout is helpful.” They had a schedule to keep, and the two adults were required with the group of boys. There are better occasions to make the point about everyone’s pitching in, which is very important.

If I had needed help, I would have accepted it.

It seems to me that a person who is upset by a polite decline - “It’s nice of you to ask, but I’m fine, thanks.” - has an agenda other than being considerate.

Women don’t want our help — until they do — and somehow men are expected to be mind-readers.

Wonder if the author is married. I figured this out, years and years ago.

I continue to try to be chivalrous whenever the opportunity arises.

I would definitely offer my seat to a pregnant lady. Whether or not she chose to accept my offer, if she appeared to be offended I would just be happy that I’m not her baby’s father.

I can remember being taught manners at a very young age, practically from birth.
One of my great aunts explained it thusly: “Ladies never open doors, seat themselves, carry packages, etc if a gentleman is nearby. We are Virginians, we hold ourselves to a higher standard.”

I still routinely open or hold doors for others of all ages. Male or female I hold the door for them.

I remember commuting in to the city. I got up on a crowded train to offer my seat to a pregnant woman. A fat little business man came running over to get the seat and i told him that it was for her. The pos said to me “aren’t you nice.” Later on as i was getting off the train I noticed the asshole sound asleep with his monthly ticket stuck in the seat. I walked by and swiped it and as I left the train I ripped it up. Guess he was wrong about me being nice.

“Several times, older women are amazed , “My goodness, a living, breathing GENTLEMAN. Thank you””

Yet the younger women will accuse you of trying to pick them up, sexual harassment, maybe even attempted rape.
