Julie Fletcher of Bolivar, New York, has filed a lawsuit against Canada Drys parent company Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, claiming the companys ginger ale drink, which bills itself as being made from real ginger, hardly contains any ginger at all.
In Fletchers class-action lawsuit filed July 10 in New York federal court, she noted Canada Drys ginger flavor extract is not real ginger as reasonable consumers understand that term, according to the New York Post. It is manufactured in a lab using various chemicals and extraction processes.
While the product has some ginger compounds, the percentage is a minuscule two parts per million.
Instead, Canada Dry Ginger Ale is made from carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, citric acid, preservatives, and natural flavors, i.e., a flavor compound comprised predominately of flavor extracts not derived from ginger, and a minuscule amount of a ginger flavor extract, the lawsuit alleged.

I used to drink Vernor’s, when I lived in Michigan.
What was I thinking?!?
Just a fun anecdote-I worked in hospitals and labs all my career. At one hospital I signed up to participate in an iron uptake research project. They would take our blood in the morning (before eating anything) and then for lunch would give us a McDonalds hamburger with a vanilla shake. Because the McDonalds hamburger had absolutely NO IRON in it. Not kidding.
There’s no Pepsin in Pepsi, no cocaine in Coke, and no Dad or root or beer in Dad’s Root Beer...................
Dang you Dogbert to Heck!
No beer in root beer, either.............
There’s no gin in it either, nor any ale. You have to add them. What’s the problem?
This may be a shocker to some, but there’s no babies in Baby Oil either.
Prefer Ginger Beer anyway.
Real ginger is bitter as hell, and it would take LOT of sweetener to turn that off, and make it palatable to the masses. I think they put just enough ginger to get it past the corp’s legal offices.
How effective? Especially from the ginger candy? I suffer from sea sickness and am seeking an alternative to sea sick pills to avoid drowsiness. I might even consider a bit of raw ginger root although it tastes bad.
When I was in the seminary we visited some monks in their monastery way out in the mountains of western Virginia. The monk giving us a tour asked if we'd like to sample their "root beer" - they make it there.
I took a swig. Awful stuff.
Found out later they make it from real roots.
I agree with her. Canada Dry is terrible.
I love ginger ale and ginger beer, the “spicier” the better.
My favorite is Blenheim. http://www.blenheimgingerale.com/
1cc of lawyer fees in every can!
Me too. I live in Maryland now. My son has seen it in the grocery store near his house in southern MD.
No she doesn’t. You just need your glasses updated.
I was once on a date and the girl was asking me a series of questions. I’d reply and say “same question”.
She asked Ginger or Mary Ann.
I said “Mary Ann, same question.... Wait!”
OK Julie...which is it? “No ginger...”, or “hardly any ginger”?
Sues Canada dry of what?
