I used to bring ginger ale with me when I went on deep sea fishing trips. Ginger ale and ginger candy are good for the stomach when sea sick.

How effective? Especially from the ginger candy? I suffer from sea sickness and am seeking an alternative to sea sick pills to avoid drowsiness. I might even consider a bit of raw ginger root although it tastes bad.

I learned about ginger ale and ginger as seasickness antidotes from very experienced fisherman. It helped me the last time I went Albacore fishing.

It helps some but I’d say not enough for real sea sickness. Try grating raw ginger into a big pitcher, put in some honey, then pour boiling water in, let steep 30 mins or more. Then strain into something and chill, then put in your thermos for the trip.

Also try taking a raw lemon and a mint tea bag. Scrape the lemon peel and sniff, really helps against mild nausea. Sniffing mint does the same. Tea bag easier to take and lasts long, can even be in the pocket.

I want to try the new kind of “Dramamine” (don’t know the name) that is a non drowsy, next time I have to go on a boat. The other kind is useless because it knocks you out.
