Woman sues Canada Dry, claims there's no ginger in its ginger ale
Atlanta Journal Constitution ^ | July 31, 2018 | Fiza Pirani

Julie Fletcher of Bolivar, New York, has filed a lawsuit against Canada Dry’s parent company Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, claiming the company’s ginger ale drink, which bills itself as being “made from real ginger,” hardly contains any ginger at all.

In Fletcher’s class-action lawsuit filed July 10 in New York federal court, she noted “Canada Dry’s ginger flavor extract is not ‘real ginger’ as reasonable consumers understand that term,” according to the New York Post. “It is manufactured in a lab using various chemicals and extraction processes.”

While the product has “some ginger compounds,” the percentage is a “minuscule” two parts per million.

“Instead, Canada Dry Ginger Ale is made from carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, citric acid, preservatives, and “natural flavors,” i.e., a flavor compound comprised predominately of flavor extracts not derived from ginger, and a minuscule amount of a ginger flavor extract,” the lawsuit alleged.

Bottom line: It does contain ginger; albeit a minuscule amount.

I had a similar story. I replaced my 19" Sony with a 36" Sony, and then that was replaced with a 40" Mitsubishi flatscreen. I marveled at how the original 19" that I had for years was the same size as the picture-in-picture in the newer TV.

Now I have a 75" UHD 4K. It makes me think that I was originally like the people in the 1950s with 10" B/W TVs and a magnifier!

“There is no cocaine in Coke.”

There used to be. My grandmother, born in the 1880’s was addicted to the original Coca Cola. Drank it all her life dying of stomach cancer in the 1950’s.

Ginger actually does have medicinal properties when it comes to soothing a tummy ache.

Sounds crazy, but the component in question is called Gingerol.

People suing over things such as this need to get a life. How utterly bored and unhappy they must be.

Ginger ale should contain ginger.

I guess it should be called "Ginger" Ale. Like artificial crab which is called "krab". I remember some candy bars from the 70's that contained "chocolaty".

It isn’t from Canada. It isn’t Dry. It doesn’t have Ginger and it isn’t Ale.

Sounds like a job for...

I have had an Uncle who saw a billboard that said “DRINK CANADA DRY”

He actually went north and attempted it, but his liver couldn’t take it.

Right after 9-11 happened, I sped to Wal-Mart and grabbed the last portable TV they had, a 10” B&W Sony for my office at the Nursery/Gdn Ctr I owned, and I, my staff and customers were transfixed by the day’s events. I sent out for 5 pizzas and Cokes for all crowded into my office. While everyone else watched, I checked my Canon T6 gunsafe (6ft wide x 7.5ft tall).

It was actually in 1903, IIRC, was when they took the 5oz of coca leaf out of the 1gal of syrup, and switched to Kola Nuts for the stimulant properties. Coca-Cola now contains 34mg of caffeine per 12 fluid ounces. (Useless factoids I somehow retained from an article, somewhere...) Heh.
