Star Wars: Episode IX will begin filming August 1 at Londons Pinewood Studios, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant joining the main cast that will also include Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian as had been tipped.
Disney and Lucasfilm also said the role of Leia Organa will be played by Carrie Fisher, using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Fisher, at the core of the iconic franchise since 1977s original film with Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford and who appeared in 2017s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, died in December 2016.
We desperately loved Carrie Fisher, said director J.J. Abrams in announcing the news on StarWars.com. Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie [Lourd], we have found a way to honor Carries legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.
Abrams directs the script he co-wrote with Chris Terrio.
The main cast from The Last Jedi is also back, Lucasfilm and Disney confirmed: Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyongo, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo and Lourd.
John Williams, who has scored every chapter in the Star Wars saga, will also return.
The film has a December 20, 2019 release date.
I root for the Empire now.
Make.
It.
Go.
Away.
enough of this! She’s dead already. So she;ll be cast until Star wars 150?
Solo is just kind of... there. Not great, not bad.
I really have no interest in seeing IX.
I have to agree.
Biggest mistake they ever made in the series, IMO.
He was way too much a major player in the whole series.
When they made the muppet movie with the ewoks, they killed the franchise. Then they made the most godawful prequels, and now the SJW sequels...I really believe the producers of star wars had some kind of internal bet on just how ridiculous and absurd they could make a movie while fully mocking the intelligence of the viewers before it would finally start to lose fans.
Harrison Ford required them to kill him in the second episode as part of his agreement to do the movies.
As an aside, I really enjoyed the Han Solo stand-alone and the other prequel.
Bet she was relieved when Crack came along.
Which series. 4-6 or 7-9.
They offer him in the first episode of the final series. Episode 7.
I may be alone here...
...but I look forward to every entry in this series.
Same for Trek.
And GoT season 8 can NOT get here quickly enough.
And I’m planning the next Florida trip for when the new Star Wars land is ready.
You’re not alone. I’m a star wars fan too. Lots of hate around here for it, but not from me. I don’t agree with all they have done, but I’m still a life long fan who looks forward eagerly to each new episode.
I actually thought I was alone here when it came to star wars
Yeah you’re way out of step. Where the prequels were a raging dumpster fire, the post-Disney films took that dumpster fire, hauled it into orbit, and dropped it on a nuclear waste dump.
That they’re still trying to work with a dead Carrie Fisher shows just how far things have gone.
Star Wars is LITERALLY necromacy now.
I have one of the first releases of the original episode on VHS and it doesn't have "Episode IV" above the scrolled words at the beginning.
I wonder if it is worth something.
I'm shocked,shocked I tell you!
Yeah I love the original trilogy but haven’t really enjoyed the other Star Wars films that much.
At least she’s not in the slave girl costume...
Odd, I thought she had a role on The WalkingDead
