you can go over to calvert cliffs any day of the week and find small shark teeth and such. they’re free to the public to pick up. the big megaladon teeth are a rare but not unusual find there. there’s a big museum in the area that’s just stuffed with stuff that have come out of those cliffs.

So the oceans were higher thousands of years ago. You mean global warming in pre-historic days?

“They’re huge!” one Facebook user said of the find.

I'm glad they gave us some expert analysis.

Calvert Cliffs on Chesapeake Bay, in the same general area as these finds were a fossil shark tooth hunting mecca back in the 60’s.

I was always so tempted to walk past those restricted area signs. Never did though.

Westmoreland State Park in Virginia. We use to find stuff all the time in the 70's. I must have had a dozen or so fossilized clam shells and a bunch of shark teeth. My brother found a fossilized whale vertebra.

Not so much now.

I remember climbing all over those cliffs when I was a child. Back then it was called the Chesapeake Ranch Estates instead of Calvert Cliffs.

In the Western portion of Dallas County TX, there are earthen mounds near the shore of a man-made lake. I was a Boy Scout in the early ‘50s and we would hike about 5-6 miles from the camp to those mounds that were named “Sharks Tooth”. We always came away with teeth that we dug up.

This location is currently about 300 miles North of the nearest shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico. There was a period when the Dallas and Fort Worth area was covered by a portion of what today is the Gulf.
