CLEARWATER, Fla. Hundreds from around Tampa Bay marched with the family of the Clearwater man fatally shot over a parking spot.
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri says the shooting was justified under Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law. The deadly shooting at a convenience store in unincorporated Clearwater occurred Thursday.
Sgt. Spencer Gross of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office tells ABC Action News the shooting stemmed from an argument over a parking spot.
Deputies said Michael Drejka, of Clearwater, confronted a woman who parked in a handicapped parking space outside the Circle A Food Store on Sunset Point Road.
Witnesses told deputies the two were arguing because Drejka was upset the woman parked there even though she wasn't handicapped. The woman's boyfriend, Markeis McGlockton, of Clearwater, was inside the store to buy his little boy a candy bar, according to the store owner.
McGlockton exited the store to defend his girlfriend and shoved Drejka to the ground.
Drejka responded by taking out a pistol and shooting McGlockton in the chest. McGlockton ran back into the store where his five-year-old son was standing at the front door, watching the entire incident happen right before his eyes. McGlockton fell to the ground inside of the store and he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Investigators say multiple people witnessed the shooting and called 911.
Drejka is a legal concealed weapons permit holder and will not be charged because of Florida's Stand Your Ground law, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

I agree. Though my guess is I’m going to be one of the few on here he does.
Blacks in this country like to march over any conceivable slight, but in this case they may be right. We can’t call them out on the frivolous stuff unless we’re willing to admit that sometimes they may be justified and thus is one of those times it appears. Just because you carry doesn’t give you the right to be judge, jury and executioner over ever little issue that bugs you. In fact carrying puts more of a burden on you to be level headed and rational. My wife is handicapped and uses the handicapped spots. And I have seen many people who are not grab the spaces because they are closer to the store. Would I shoot someone over it, no. Yes the guy got pushed, but that doesn’t warrant murder and that is what this is. If what I’ve read about the shooter us true he fancied himself and really Charles Bronson.
I didn’t notice that the gf opens the car door and gets out as soon as she sees her bf exit the store. It is possible when the guy saw her exit then got pushed to the ground he feared further assault. I did notice the guy that was complaining about the parking spot stayed 4-5 feet from the car window the entire conversation.
I still don’t know if the shooting was justified, would this assault have escalated if the shooter did not end it?
The display of the firearm seemed to end the threat, the dead guy was retreating, can’t tell if the shot takes place in this video.....
“But they’re good at sheltering in place, cleaning up the bodies afterwards, blaming law-abiding gun owners for the shootings, and collecting their pensions after the yellow stripe down their backs get revealed... “

My God,you are going to turn this into a cop bashing thread?
Give me a break.

is that not called reasonable doubt...tragic event in any case..

In this day and age, it is asking for trouble to confront someone over a parking space. No, it was not a crime, but if the person is jerk enough to park in a handicapped spot, he's probably jerk enough to to kick someone's ass for pointing out that he's a jerk. We were taught in the CHL that because we are armed, such a minor event can easily rise to the level of fatality. Best not go there.
We both agree on that as do most. I am debating/sicussing what happened in this particular situation.
The guy may be an asshole as the “community” talk is claiming but he’s also over 50 and handicapped.
This means he cannot meet bare fist threats with bare fists fast enough to stop a thug from stomping him potentially to death after the thug blindside slams him to the ground.
Moral: Don’t physically attack old people - even if you’re unarmed - they may be armed and justified to shoot you dead.
Clearly there was NOT. But then, I have this odd idea you don’t shoot someone who is retreating just because you are angry or feel insulted.
“Moral: Dont physically attack old people -”
I read several places that he is 47 years old———hardly an old person.
.
Pulling the gun and telling someone to back off is one thing. Pulling the trigger changes the whole narrative. There is no indication from the video that the black guy was looking to continue the confrontation. Yes he pushed him down, but made no subsequent menacing movements toward him. This not a Trayvon thing
This was already covered a few days ago.Two hundred (plus) replies.
Why are you posting the same lengthy story over and over again? I think we got your point the first dozen times.
Putting aside the parking spot for a moment.
Put yourself in the “boyfriends” shoes. You come out of the store and a stranger is near your girlfriend and kid. As you get closer you hear some antagonizing going on. Did he over react? Hard to say without audio and knowing what was said or the tone in which it was said. But he clearly pushes the shooter away from the vehicle, girlfriend and son.
Following that, I see him moving away (at least one step backwards was taken) before the gun came out. The video I saw as well showed the shooter pausing a couple seconds and then shooting the boyfriend in the chest.
I think the shooter was a hothead with a gun and it was a foregone conclusion he was going to kill someone at some point. That confrontation was the day.
He should have known better. Being a CCW carries with it the responsibility not to start a confrontation.
Its sad all the way around.
He didn’t appear to retreat until after h was shot. He was one millisecond away from finishing this shooter off. Clearly the violent assaulter was unhinged as most people wouldn’t aggressively throw a man to the ground for calmly stating the car was illegally parked. I for one would assume the violent person would be ready for a second strike and wanting to protect my life and if armed I would certainly protect myself immediately by pulling the gun as a millisecond is a millisecond. The debatable question here is in that millisecond would a reasonable person pull the trigger, I wasn’t in that circumstance looking into the crazed eyes of a thug who just violently assaulted me.
If you have never been mugged, had bones in your face cracked, it’s hard to understand why a guy would carry and then unload like this guy did.
You got it exactly right. Shooter looks like an A-hole but you don’t go around pushing strangers onto the hard pavement. No words were spoken by the black guy, just a shove down to the pavement.
Well surprise Mr Thug, you got shot lawfully. In your next life talk or yell, don’t lay hands on someone as your opening communication. You are bigger than him but his gun (aka equalizer) was bigger than you.
Was his mom there? I don't believe so.
Switch colors and do you feel the same? I doubt it.
