Camp Pendleton general facing ‘administrative actions’ after reportedly treating aide like a servant while deployed to Iraq
8 at 6:44 pm | UPDATED: July 20, 2018 at 6:45 pm CAMP PENDLETON — A brigadier general serving at the Marine Corps base will receive “administrative actions” for misusing his aide to perform servant-like tasks while deployed to Iraq.
Marine Corps officials confirmed Friday, July 20 that a report by the Department of Defense Inspector General substantiated allegations against Brig. Gen. Rick A. Uribe, who served as deputy commanding general and director of the Combined Joint Operations Center in Baghdad from May 2016 to June 2017.
“The chain of command has addressed the allegations through appropriate administrative actions,” said Chuck Little, a spokesman for the Marine Corps Forces Pacific. “We take all allegations of misconduct seriously.”
Uribe, who now serves as the deputy commanding general of 1 Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF), is accused of using his aide to carry out duties that were not part of the job description.
According to the report published this month, Uribe asked the aide to pick up his laundry, remove and turn in his bed sheets for cleaning, provide meals and snacks, draft his unofficial correspondence, reserve gym equipment and collect financial and personal information Uribe needed to complete military paperwork.
The report was initiated by a tip to a Department of Defense hotline on June 15, 2017. The tipster alleged Uribe permitted aide to perform activities other than those required in the performance of official duties. An investigation was opened Aug. 4, 2017.
According to the Inspector General’s report, 23 witnesses were interviewed including Uribe, his aide, the Marine Corps Ethics Program subject matter expert, the Staff Judge Advocate to the Commandant of the Marine Corps, and several Marines deployed with Uribe and his aide in Iraq.

Today, unless you are a USA citizen, in theory you cannot work any military job that gives you access to classified information.
When we ‘fell in love’ with that cute little Japanese girl we were restricted as to one had to be E5 to get married without permission (But I think if overseas and she a Foreign National, had to get permission regardless).
One of the ‘crutches’ they casually used if you had a security clearance (I was Comm/Crypto (enl)) so they would tell us that if married your security clearance was in jeopardy...

General’s aid or Admiral’s aid, have been doing the boss’ bidding for decades. This case can open a pandora’s box. Wait till the sexual harassment charges start coming.

Be able to make beds, shine shoes, cook, serve, wait on, clean, hmmm sounds like ‘home away from home’ or what ‘wifely’ duties were prior them becoming Generals/Admirals/CEOs etc.
(Those that have been in Olangapo remember that some of those ‘slight’ Philipino ‘bum boys’ were the forerunners of hes trying to pass as shes...Bangkok Thailand another forerunner...) Just a comment of actuality not saying ‘they’ were the complete package.
Ran across a name a Steward had several years ago - first name was Admiral.
Can just picture previous ‘wardrooms’ sitting around deciding to treat the Stewards with a little more warmth by calling them by their first name.

What do Marine officers do when they are aides to a general???? Laundry pick up? Loans for the general? Personal paperwork for the general?
Maybe this general preferred that his female officer aide make him sammiches and take care of his dry cleaning. I guess the previous general did not require his male aide to do the same tasks, and someone took offense.

The Generals’ Aides I knew did a hell of a lot more than that. It was just considered part of the job.
I would venture to guess as long as humans have banded together in groups to do battle, there has almost always been someone there to lead them, and someone there to get dinner for him, run messages, polish his armor/shoes.
Sometimes it was a slave. Sometimes it was a wife. Sometimes a butler or equivalent. And sometimes it was a very junior soldier.
Sometimes they loved the man. Sometimes they hated the man. But they all did it.
I will have to read the story again. It seems like someone, somewhere has an axe to grind with this General. Otherwise, I didn’t anything egregious in there.
And by all accounts, a most willing, loyal, and trusted one. A remarkable relationship.
