Never short on ideas for things to tax, lawmakers in New Jersey are considering a tax on tap water.
The proposal is being floated by State Sen. Bob Smith D-Middlesex, who is trying to say it's not actually a tax but a 'user fee'.
"It is a user fee based on volume," Smith told Fox 5's Chasing New Jersey.

Ahhhhh........a user fee. It’s a tax. Geez
Where’s General Washington? Trenton needs to be taken again
Don't joke; it will be next. They'll force us to wear little devices that measure the number and volume of our exhalations and assess "user fees" accordingly.
“Trenton needs to be taken again”
Been to Trenton lately? Who would want it?
Why not air???? It’s dirty.
Tax the hell out liberal scum!!!
If you drive a car, Ill tax the street,
If you try to sit, Ill tax your seat,

George Harrison was prescient. But IIRC, the taxes in Britain were off the wall. Another line of the song goes If 5% appears too small, be thankful I dont take it all. The income tax on higher earners, like The Beatles, was 95% in the 60s.
exactly, the stupidity to tax things essential to being alive
A friend in PA says she had to pay a “moving tax” when she moved. (She had to move as the owner was selling the place.)
“It’s a user fee based on volume”
Ummm, that’s called your water bill.
“Bottled Water Inc. stock future indexes and equity options are rising exponentially. Along with water delivery services.

Wheres General Washington? Trenton needs to be taken again
I guess if he knew what would happen in the future, he would have left it in the hands of the Brits.

Property tax cap offsets. Besides, didn’t the U.N. make water a human right?
Wait for a “well ownership tax” on top of property and whatever others.
Hey dem! you can shove your “user fee” up where the sun don’t shine.
My uncle living in downtown Philadelphia was from Estonia. He couldn't imagine someone paying for water. He pounded a chisel point well on his 10ft by 75ft patch of garden. He put a little artsy shed over it. 40 years of no public supply.
