Russian warship carrying £100BILLION worth of GOLD found off South Korea

It is thought that the battle ship, which was discovered off the island of Ulleungdo, was sunken during the Russo-Japanese War and could have had the gold of an entire flotilla on board.

The Dmitrii Donskoi was an armoured cruiser in the Russian Imperial Navy’s Baltic fleet which was deployed to the Pacific in the 1904-5 Russo-Japanese War.

The warship would have taken part in the Battle of Tsushima which saw Russia defeated by Japanese warships.

Just a guess that they felt it was the prudent thing to do in case the war with Japan went south. The trans-Siberian railway wasn't finished until 1916 and there was a chance that Japan could have invaded Siberia.

At the beginning of World War I and II, the UK sent their gold to Canada.

Just a little Russo Japanese War History: The Tsushima Straight battle was a total surprise (for the Russians), essentially an ambush. While they had felt the Japanese Navy had advanced somewhat from their victory in the Sino-Japanese War a decade or so before, nobody in military intelligence thought they could challenge an advanced European navy on this scale. Most likely the vessel was going through the Suez Canal. It had been completed in 1869, the British were still the owners and were the erstwhile allies of the Russian Czar family at the time.

Just to add a little extra after rereading the article and an account of the Battle of Tsushima Straight: It appears the vessel was heading to Vladivostok, then the Far Eastern Headquarters for the war. The gold on board was intended to pay expenses of a protracted war (including salaries). Since it was behind the main body of the Russian fleet, almost all of which was sunk, it remains a mystery why any of the three surviving vessels of the Russian fleet which made it to the port of Vladivostok could not have warned their comrades in the gold laden vessel traveling several hours behind. Wireless communications WERE available at that time.

That would be about 120 cargo containers at 30 tons per. Gold is much more dense, but cranes might not be able to handle more than that at once

Does Russia have a claim?

Even more, can Mueller somehow tie this in to Trump's Russian collusion?

Insane? You betcha! But this is Mueller we're talking about!

And it’s a ‘battle ship’ that’s a cruiser.

Just a reminder that most of that which poses as ‘journalists’ these days are about as bright as a box of extremely dull rocks.

Well, however it went down, today’s question is “Finders, keepers?” Who has salvage rights?

Hard to say. But in the meantime I’m considering changing my last name to Romanov. :-)

Seems way too much to pay a fleet. Somebody blew the amount by a couple orders of magnitude.

"Russia will also get an equal share of the money as they are the rightful owners of the ship and have been helping the South Korean firm with their search for the wreck."
