'Quadrillion' tons of diamonds discovered deep below Earth's surface

(snip) --- A team of scientists made an enormous discovery when they recently uncovered a "quadrillion" tons of diamonds buried more than 100 miles below Earth's surface, according to a new study.

Researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard, the Carnegie Institution of Washington and several other universities used seismic devices to measure the speed of sound waves traveling through the Earth's crust.

"Sound waves move at various speeds through the Earth, depending on the temperature, density, and composition of the rocks through which they travel," MIT explained in a news release. "Scientists have used this relationship between seismic velocity and rock composition to estimate the types of rocks that make up the Earth’s crust and parts of the upper mantle, also known as the lithosphere."

__________

(snip) --- Unfortunately, there's no way to access the gemstones — as drills are unable to dig 200 miles into the Earth's crust. But researchers say it proves diamonds aren't as rare as we once thought.

If it exists then the value of a diamond is zero.

The value of a diamond should be very low, even with existing (tappable) supplies. They are however strictly controlled to create the impression of a demand overhang, and marketing has additionally been quite effective in making diamonds seem rare (De Beers old marketing campaign was gold). Diamonds are actually not rare, and if stocks were released inimpeded prices would plummet. A tanzanite or tsavorite Stone, for example, is significantly rarer than a diamond of the same quality and carat.

And no - I am not against diamonds. Got my now wife an engagement ring that could buy a good car, and I find stones lovely, but I am cognizant that diamonds aren’t what most people think they are.

If there’s a gazillion....and they bring them up...we’ll be buying diamonds at Walmart.

The price of diamonds is completely artificially propped up by monopolistic practices already. They’re not scarce at all. Can’t produce them right now, but I’ve seen photos of Russians moving them around in warehouses with payloaders like gravel. You might want to do some research on this for yourself.

When raised from below into our lower atmospheric pressure from their present high pressure state, they expand and become giant marshmallows.

Fraudulent headline. They haven’t been discovered. They haven’t been uncovered either. They are still 100% COVERED, with earth, and they will remain covered. So this is a lot of words over nothing.

Lots of gold, silver, and platinum down there as well.

Heck, there’s 38 POUNDS of gold in a cubic mile of seawater.

'Quadrillion' tons of diamonds discovered deep below Earth's surface

Supposedly DeBeers Inc., who monopolizes and controls the diamond market, has a huge trove of diamonds that they won't allow on the market because the price of diamonds would drop precipitously.
