LOS ANGELES (AP) Comic-Con, the annual gathering of over 130,000 fans, artists, collectors and geek culture savants, has already been changed by the #MeToo and Times Up era, with at least one notable figure stepping aside due to sexual misconduct allegations. But questions remain about its atmosphere and whether convention organizers will take any extra steps to address longstanding allegations of harassment issues during the event which kicks off Wednesday night in San Diego.
The convention has always been a home for comic book and genre enthusiasts, and a refuge for like-minded fans to mingle, but its also been a place rife with harassment of women and others, whether its cosplayers (people who dress up in costumes), general attendees or even those hawking merchandise (sometimes called booth babes).
I dont think any convention has historically been a safe or inviting space for women, says Cher Martinetti, the managing editor of SYFY Wires Fangrrls site.
Sexual harassment at fan conventions is a subject that is often raised, but the scrutiny will be even more intense this year with the heightened awareness about misconduct.
Just weeks ago, Nerdist founder Chris Hardwick, a mainstay at Comic-Con and moderator of numerous panels, stepped aside from moderating AMC and BBC America panels amid allegations from an ex-girlfriend , which Hardwick has denied. And since last fall a handful of familiar Comic-Con faces, have been accused of misconduct as well, like Aint It Cool News founder Harry Knowles and Honest Trailers creator Andy Signore.
Comic-Con has a code of conduct that representatives say was, Intentionally created to serve as a comprehensive measure that makes attendee safety a priority.

“...ComicCon womens’ costumes...”
And those you pictured are among the more modest outfits!
Back in the day, before ComicCons and TrekCons and other media based fantasy conventions and ‘cosplay,’ we had the same kind of problems with costuming at Science Fiction conventions. Basically, attractive young women would create costumes to show off their ...ahem...assets. (see if you can locate pictures of ‘Animal X’, Heidi, Angelique Tournove, and others, from the 1970’s) The costume call organizers had to make a rule: No costume is not a costume!
But that did not apply to hall costumes, which were not entered in the Masquerades.
I recall one incident at an EveCon, which was held over the New Year’s Eve weekend at a hotel, which was holding its own New Year’s Eve Party at their bar and restaurant. The hotel’s Security Chief was talking to the EveCon organizer (Bruce Evry) about keeping the two very different crowds apart. “And especially,” he told Bruce, “ I don’t want to see any of your girls wandering around the public areas of the hotel half naked.” Just at that moment, a rather attractive teen aged girl wandered past wearing nothing above the waist but strategically placed decals of seashells. Stunned silence for a couple of seconds. “I must be getting old,” said the security chief, “and my eyes are going bad,” pinching the bridge of his nose, “because I didn’t see that.” “I’m going blind, too,” said Bruce, “ ‘cause I didn’t see it either!” And he hurried off to intercept the young woman and get her to cover up. I saw her a little later; her idea of covering up was a loose, completely sheer blouse worn over the appealing but disturbing decals. Unbuttoned, of course.
I know my daughter quit going for similar reasons. I guess it was fun before it got too popular. She hates posers.
Of course.
Chris was a great host of The Talking Dead and it won't be the same without him.
The accusations against him by his ex-girlfriend were way over the top in my opinion and I can't believe they let him go because of that...........
She has a nice sense of humor.
We did the DragonCon thing from the late 90s until the early 00s.
Mostly it was to meet the actors, watch the nice costumes, and get a few autographs.
I got burned out on the experience.
We met a lot of neat people.
Peter Jurasik remembered us each time. Nice fellow.
One thing she says is that she is surprised at how old a lot of the actors look in person.
She also would get hit on A LOT! She had a mean girlfriend she would go with and my daughter is mean as well. She was mistaken as a groupie on many an occasion by some celebrity guests. She was always polite when she declined their advances.
Over here!!!
I’ve caught an elevator ride with Ron Glass, the general from Stargate, and maybe a B5’era or two on my trips.
Maybe I crossed the street with Denise Crosby in a group.
This will trigger the Feminazis.
The same Ron Glass who was Harris on "Barney Miller"?
ff
Detective “Blood On The Badge” Harris himself.
This is a family website. Mostly.

I don’t remember Thor looking like that.
She did a great job on the helmet, and I have no complaints at all regarding the breastplates. The rest had to be modified because of her size and curves. Engineering reasons, of course.
They’ll probably tend more towards the ‘stylish gas station attendant ‘ uniform favored by General Organa.
Now I remember the reason I always liked that otherwise forgettable movie. :-))
I sent Kirk’s green girlfriend to my brothers and sister. They loved it!
