In reality, the cowboy culture embraced anyone who was willing to work hard: white, black (from Buffalo Soldiers to freed slaves), Mexican nationals, Chinese, Protestant, Catholic, and even Jews (think Levi Strauss, and yes, there were plenty of Jewish cowboys — one even died in the Alamo).
Stupid.
Or maybes it’s the “must work hard” part the liberals don’t like.
