Democrats had given up on state legislatures, governors, and federal congress. They didn’t mind losing 1000+ seats or 3 or 4 elections.
They staked the future of the world (the world they wanted) on the white house and supreme court. 6 people could literally control the world - LA, SanFran, Chicago and NY guaranteed them that power (electoral votes) for the foreseeable future.
Then Trump won. And they lost the white house. YUGE LOSS but fixable in 4 years.
And now Trump is denying them the other 5 pieces of world domination for the next few decades.
They still have no plan to win at the state level (legislature and governor). Federal house and senate are a long shot this year and they have no clue how to change that in 2020. They cannot appeal to the masses they want to control which they must do to regain power.
It’s possible there has never in history been this big a lose in (expected) power that didn’t involve guillotines. The older ones (Pelosi, Hillary) won’t see the utopia (massive power) they’ve been working for their whole life. They younger ones have decades of work ahead of them to get back to what they almost had 2 years ago (and they will have to work with deplorables to get there.) To say they are distraught and angry is an understatement.
