I was wrong about Trump. I was solidly against him when he was running - knowing that he spent most of his life as a Democrat. I was at the point that I would have almost rather have had a Democrat in office that claimed to be a Democrat than another RINO claiming to be a Republican while ruining the country (not enough to vote for Hillary, or not vote btw). Trump has happily proved me wrong and I am now solidly behind him and happier than I have been, ever, with my president. Hopefully this SC pick proves to be the exact right choice for our times. Prayers are being answered.
Anybody else?
1. I never watched Apprentice or his career except that ...
2. I knew his favorite book was The Fountainhead. That CAN'T be your favorite book and also you be anything but a rational individualist. No rational individualist can be truly a democrat. (However, if you had a business to run and a self-PR campaign to run, you might act like one.) It follows that Ayn Rand is his favorite thinker. I know many here don't like her. I'm not saying she's perfect, I'm saying she can't be your favorite thinker AND you are a democrat/lefty/collectivist.
3. I'd heard him talk about his brother who died.
4. I'd seen him testify before congress.
5. I'd heard him talk about the period when his businesses failed. He was very humble but not ashamed. Said it was a life lesson - he'd taken his eye off the ball, to much women and socializing.
6. He's a non-traditional Christian, but his character was formed in his church.
7. Everyone who's actually worked with him - they don't necessarily like him, but they respected him and his leadership.
So I don't think he was a 'rino who became conservative' ... I think he was a fake democrat (dino) who started showing his true colors. Trump is very very humble, I know that seems odd to say, but the shallow braggadocio is an act. He's deeply reflective. He probably DID become more conservative after he reflected on what his duty as pres would actually mean.
What I've been surprised by, but not that much, is his effectiveness. He has the teflon of Sun Tzu's moral rightness.
I hate to say it, but ... I really don't ... he's a very good and humble man wearing the constume of a loose cannon.
Where he's not humble is not about himself, but what's possible for a man or mankind on this earth, what man's potential is. He extends that to himself, and that appears as pride. But that's different from refusing to be ashamed, because you know the nature of your creator. His belief in himself is tempered with deep reflection and hard work.
Also, of course, as is any humble man, he knows he's a bozo, and isn't afraid to express that too.
Might be reading a lot into it ... but so far I haven't been wrong. Having certain core things in your life ... there are only a certain number of ways you can turn our. He's pretty locked in.
Also I dated a woman who lived in Trump Tower 8 or 9 years ago and she knew him because she was on the board of trustees. I trusted her judgment implicitly, and she trusted his. People have been pushing him to run for decades. That (knowing her, someone closer to him) may have sealed it for me. She was very very conservative, and we met only because the Fountainhead was already our favorite books, that was the conversation opener between us, and that was long before I knew it was Trump's.
So - not that surprise, but way better than I thought.
(sorry don't have time to edit that)
Sure took you a long time to jump on the bandwagon.
Late coming to the party.
No refreshments for you.
Yet another confirmation that the Trump movement is sweeping the country and the world!
Same here. Cruz was my first choice over a NYC billionaire who wrote The Art of the Deal and rubbed elbows with celebrities. I think he could easily have made deals with Schumer and Pelosi if they were more mature. I thank God for the resistance. He truly works in mysterious ways!
It was the decade of 'The Donald' as incessantly reported by Liz Smith.
I never thought about Trump either way other than getting tired of Liz Smith referring to Trump as 'The Donald'.
The event that shows you who Trump is and how he thinks and acts is the Central Park skating rink.
The city was trying to rebuild the CPSK and they were wildly over budget, it wasn't working, and there was no end in sight.
Trump stepped in and said, 'I'll rebuild it for you (and if I remember correctly) for right to the concessions'.
The city let him and he rebuilt it under budget and before scheduled.
The key to understanding Trumps' personality is that he's impatient with incompetence.
While everyone is saying, 'it can't be done because it's never been done before' and 'we can't do it that way because we have to do it this way', and 'we have to follow the established rules even if the established rules don't work', Trump is saying, 'Why not?' and 'Of course we can'.
Trump is SOLUTION focused. Not PROCESS focused.
Trump looks for the shortest distance between two lines and he finds those of like-mind who know what needs to be done and how to get it done.
This transcends political parties.
It doesn't phase me he was a Democrat.
What's import to me is he correctly identifies a problem and then finds the solution that will work.
Hopefully this SC pick proves to be the exact right choice for our times.

Remains to be seen. Ties to George W. Bush, support from GOP establishment, and teaches law at Harvard, Yale and Georgetown (ideological nurseries for liberals). He might not be a reliable conservative vote. Just my humble opinion.
With Ed Meese’s prominent appearance at last night, this guy has the GOP stamp of approval all over him. That’s something to be concerned about.
I myself was a hard core pro choice feminist once.
Trump is SOLUTION focused. Not PROCESS focused.

In this case it may be that the solution was a nod to the GOP establishment for whatever reason. Think art of the deal. Probably a concession in exchange for some other type of support Trump needs in the future.
Not sure Kavanaugh will prove to be someone that conservatives will be happy with in the long run. JMHO.
When I saw the RINO GOPe 17-candidate “Field of Dreams”, the inclusion of an Independent Cross-over in the image of a exactly a Former Democrat, it seemed to me a slam dunk if he was the GOP nominee; but alas we found the first Resistance in the ranks of the GOPe. I never saw anything Trump put on TV, but by the time of the election I certainly knew One Evident Truth which simply states the DNC will Smear Anyone against them, as the second coming of their Idol Satan.
My gut feeling is in the long run, Democrats won't have much to worry about.
No bold rulings. Just safe compromises. imo
Welcome to the party, pal.
BINGO you have perfectly stated something I’ve missed, Trump being the only Nationalist Standing!
It might just cause a mass defection.
Already happening.
#WalkAway started by a Gay Man is picking up steam Bigly
Exactly! It was more profitable to be a Democrat in NYC.
As a former NCO who was told by the Officer Candidate Board (while serving in a 4-Star General’s office), Sergeant Mac you are a fantastic NCO who will get in trouble as an officer, but Officer’s need good NCO’s to execute the mission without breaking regulations or laws - aka, you have the talent to stand up to your superiors from a position of correctness in making it happen. Trump is that old Non Commissioned Officer from his Military College - Leadership is about as rare as pure logical or not so common common sense.
Ditto, here. I am finding, though, that former democrats make some of the best conservatives we could have speaking out and representing.
