Rescuers in Thailand have begun the process of removing the 12 boys and their soccer coach who have been trapped in a cave for two weeks, according to the Chiang Rai governor.
Authorities said at a press conference Sunday morning in Chiang Rai province that they made the decision to rescue the boys as oxygen drops and the threat of monsoon rains approaches. Due to the length of the journey out of the cave, officials said the first boy was expected to come out at 9 p.m. local time, which is 10 a.m. Sunday Eastern time. The officials said the operation could take two or three days.
At 10 a.m. local time, 13 foreign divers and five Thai SEALs entered the cave to begin the operation. Two divers will escort each of the kids out of the cave.
"We have a fraction of a second to help them come out," provincial Gov. Narongsak Osatanakorn said.
It will take five hours for rescuers to reach the boys from the entrance of the cave, and six hours to bring back the boys, including an hour break time.

11 hours of hard, dangerous work.
I can do longer days of work - but mostly normal stuff. Although I suppose to a SEAL, 11 hours is nothing. To them it is normal. I recall some fight in Afghanistan that went on for 14 hours or something. And somebody quipped about the 3 day(?) training of the nastiest conditions with no sleep. But still....
And the boys - 6 hours. Praying that God will give them strength and courage and strong will.

Prayers up for the boys, the coach, the rescuers and the families of those involved.
Dear Lord, please, hold them all closely, to help them to draw upon Your strength.

As far as I can tell, this timing is the best of bad choices. In other words, they had to go right away because multiple negative factors were about to get worse.

Oh, my. It’s a real nail-biter. Just said a prayer for 100% success.

I don’t understand what that means. Is it hyperbole for “a short window of time”, or is there a point in the process where an actial second makes a difference?
A very short window, controlled by the weather (rain).
Many risk multipliers looming (wx, Co2, ox), however pumping H2o has lowered the water levels, now it is up to endurance and shear strength of will.
Pray for the calming of all storms. Pray for the army of angles to be in attendance. Pray for mighty power to dwell within ALL participants (the boys, the parents, the responders and support, the equipment), and the resolve.

It is a translated metaphor. It means to act now and gives credence to the abstract that life is fleetingly short. Remember that Thailand is a Buddhist country and that the shortness of this lifetime is often alluded to quite often.
Above is a link to an article about one of the boys. Quite the story. Fled from the fighting in Mynamar, goes to a Christian school in Thailand. Is the only one stranded that knows English. (Plus 3 or 4 other languages!). I hope that he is a Christian, and can provide hope to the others.
