UFC 226: Miocic vs. Cormier, Live Thread
7-7-2018

Posted on 07/07/2018 3:00:28 PM PDT by Impy

Tonight, Prelims on Fox Sports One and Fox Sports Go at 8 Eastern. Main Card on PPV at 10 Eastern.

Heavyweight Champ Stipe Miocic defends his belt against Light HW Champ Daniel Cormier in the main event. DC seeks to be become the 5th 2 division Champ. This is only the 3rd (Reigning) Champ V. Champ match-up in UFC History.

Scheduled co-main between Featherweight Champ Max Holloway and Brian Ortega cancelled due to Holloway developing "concussion-like symptoms". Whether it was a real concussion or just a bad weight cut I can't say.

Rest of the main card

Francis Ngannou vs. Derrick "The Black Beast" Lewis, HW

Paul Felder vs. Mike Perry, Welter

Former Lightweight Champ Anthony Pettis vs. Michael Chiesa, Chiesa missed weight

Gökhan Saki vs. Khalil Rountree Jr., LHW

Prelims

Middleweight Uriah Hall vs. Paulo Costa

Bantamweight Raphael Assunção vs. Rob Font

Lightweight Lando Vannata vs. Drakkar Klose

Welterweight Curtis Millender vs. Max Griffin

Early Preliminary Card (UFC Fight Pass)

Lightweight Dan Hooker vs. Gilbert Burns

Women's Strawweight Jamie Moyle vs. Emily Whitmire

I’ll take Miocic, Lewis (even though I know I should take Ngannou), Cheisa, and Hall (even though Hall is, ah, something).

Cormier is family and I am pulling for him, but I don’t feel good about this one. Age is catching up with DC fast. He needs to retirew.

I love Daniel, but Miocic is one hell of a champ.

3 of those fights are over, but you got the right picks! I was worried about Pettis but he had an impressive win.

He submitted Chiesa (after knocking him down with strikes), who is a superior grappler. He needed this win after not looking great for a while there.

HW Disappointment in the co-main

Ngannou was tenative, they think gunshy coming off his first loss, he lands like 10 strikes the whole fight. Crowd was booing.

Lewis, dealing with a back injury wasn’t great either but easily takes the decision.

Rogan says worst HW fight ever, I don’t know there have been a few bad ones.
