You'll no longer be able to post written reviews as of July 30, and then in mid-August existing written reviews will be removed.
Soon, it'll be a little harder for you to tell everyone what you thought of Marvel's The Avengers.
Netflix is removing a desktop-only feature this summer that allowed users to read and write reviews of TV shows and movies on its website. But the shutdown is coming in stages. People will no longer be able to write their feedback on a show, similar to a Yelp review of a restaurant, by July 30. And in mid-August, people will no longer be able to read existing user reviews on Netflix either.
"We have notified members who have used the feature recently," Netflix spokesperson Smita Saran said in an email Thursday.
This isn't the first time the company has changed a feature used to provide feedback on its offerings.
The streaming service used to allow people to rate programs with one to five stars. But, early last year, the company changed it to a simple thumbs up or thumbs down. Some people criticized the move as overly simplistic. Forbes contributor Paul Tassi said the new system was "the epitome of uselessness." Netflix, meanwhile, still uses the star-rating data and has said it has received more ratings under its thumbs-up-thumbs-down system.
Netflix's written reviews allowed users to explain why they doled out five stars, for instance, to Parks and Recreation. But they only ever appeared on Netflix's website, not its many apps, and a Netflix spokeswoman said the written reviews didn't influence the system Netflix used to recommend shows to you.
"This feature is only offered on the website and has seen declining usage over time," Saran said.

Obamaflix
Since Obama and Michael can only dish out criticism but can’t handle it I imagine that was one of their demands. OK by me because I canceled Netflix when I found out they hired them.
I am checking out Hulu and their paid no commercial service.
Used to love the comments section on IMDB, especially the Ten Things I Learned Watching...... They were hilarious. Alas, no more....
I had no idea they had comments. I never saw them. The movies pop up and I pick one. Who gives a crap. If you want to comment on something join a chat group.
Lol. They are number 1 steaming in the world. They arent going anywhere soon.
Exactly.
Netflix started deprecating the entire review system as soon as they started producing content. Many of their initial offerings got panned and with good reason! Its been a slow, calculated move to prop up their decades g offerings. A significant percentage of content is foreign, complete with anti-American themes and darkly dystopian world views.
The Obamas wont have any impact on the companys trajectory. People are gobbling up this regurgitated vomitits gone way beyond soft porn. The desensitization campaign is in full flower: homosexuality, though de regueur, is almost passe; bestiality, sadomasochism and pedophilia now compose the avant garde. Communism, climate change, androgyny and misandry round out the programming. Such a feast for the senses!
So glad I dropped it.
I’ve never been a fan of netflix.
The reviews are still visible on the streaming side, but you have really want to find them. They’re under “details”.
First IMDB takes down their message boards and now this! What’s next, critic reviews and Rotten Tomatoes will be banned too?
I cancelled my subscription the day they announced that Susan Rice joined the board.
That was the best comment I could have given.
LEFTflix
They not only get away with the bias, they get away with forcing all of us to fund it through taxation.
Excellent point! The LEFT specializes in that. The LEFT MEDIA CARTEL is doing the same thing. They are always included in the cable basic bundle. LEFT MEDIA CARTEL’s revenue is 50% cable subscriber fees. They could not hang on without cable subscriber fees. You get to fund the LEFT every time you write a check to the cable company. You cannot get cable tv without funding the LEFT. This is their forte. The only way to stop this is a la carte programming. The only way to get a la carte programming is to cut cable tv until they do offer it.
They will not change until it is financially infeasible not to.
There are plenty of alternatives. Broadcast tv with a good antenna and a streaming service that has a la carte packages. An added benefit is if the cable companies see the a la carte companies on the rise, they may move more quickly.
No. I dont think there were ENOUGH conservative comments at all.
But, as with every forum, the low class quickly and heavily came through. The cussing and foulness allowed on so many of these sites is unbelieveable. Never mind when it is pure vitriol.
Anonymity with a voice. Makes you want to draw up the bridge. And then you remember the Christ came down.
Maybe too, because most of their new content is foreign crap and people like me are fed up with it, I mean really, how much demand is there for Bollywood, Pakistani crap and gay shit?
They had already shut down most movie ratings months ago.
I heard it was a money decision. The message boards was costing too much.
And he knows what I wouldnt like!
The IMDB forums were pretty good, and extremely popular. It was obvious the boards were shutdown because there was a significant number of conservatives on the site. They didn’t care how popular the boards were, they just wanted to shutdown the conservative message from reaching others. You know traffic went down significantly without the boards. It’s the same reason last man standing was canceled. Some of these rich liberals will take a loss to shutdown conservative message
