Carlos Ray "Chuck" Norris was born on March 10, 1940 in Ryan, Oklahoma. In 1958, after high school, Norris joined the Air Force as an Air Policeman (AP) with the goal of training in the Security Police in preparation for a career in law enforcement.
Norris was sent Osan Air Base, South Korea where he began his training in Tang Soo Do (tangsudo), an interest that led to the founding of the Chun Kuk Do ("Universal Way") form.
When he returned to the United States, Norris continued to act as an AP at March Air Force Base, California, until he was honorably discharged in August 1962.

Wayne evidently tried to enlist during WW II. Was it just a token effort? I guess we’ll never know for sure. From Wikipedia (yeah, I know):
America’s entry into World War II resulted in a deluge of support for the war effort from all sectors of society, and Hollywood was no exception. Wayne was exempted from service due to his age (34 at the time of Pearl Harbor) and family status (classified as 3-A family deferment) although actor Henry Fonda, born two years earlier, volunteered and served three years.
Wayne repeatedly wrote to John Ford saying he wanted to enlist, on one occasion inquiring whether he could get into Ford’s military unit, but consistently kept postponing it until after “he finished just one or two pictures”. Wayne did not attempt to prevent his reclassification as 1-A (draft eligible), but Republic Studios was emphatically resistant to losing him since he was their only A-list actor under contract.
Herbert J. Yates, President of Republic, threatened Wayne with a lawsuit if he walked away from his contract, and Republic Pictures intervened in the Selective Service process, requesting Wayne’s further deferment.
I have no problem with the Duke. Service or no service, he served his country, with or without endorsement.
Speaking of Chuck Norris sleeping....
Some people wear Superman pajamas. Superman wears Chuck Norris pajamas.
.
Chuck Norris wears Trump pajamas.
Touche’!
I don’t get all the crazy stuff, Chuck Norris is a great guy.
Once a year Chuck Norris volunteers to place his head in a specially constructed hydraulic press. It ruins the press, but they end up with a substance that is used to color all the red hair dye made in the world for that year.
Freegards
I heard that one time....
Chuck Norris met Chuck Norris in an alternate timeline.
They both won the fight.
Hitler said that Chuck Norris was swimming the Atlantic to end WWII!
You had to see the Hitler skit on You Tube to get it! ;-)
Saw him defeat a fierce Joe Lewis at the Nationals in Manhattan with a lightning spinning back kick.
Quite a thrill.
That’s back in the day, I feel old.
You said it. I used to manage a pretty fair spinning back kick myself.
Now I walk with a cane. Slowly.
Sigh.
Voracious Time doesn’t stand still, does He!
LOL
Indeed
Do you think Wayne would have been upset to be called an actor? Because he was not a soldier. He was an actor. He was not a martial arts expert. He was a actor.
By the way, my original comment was not meant as a dig against Wayne. I’m actually rather indifferent about him. My original comment was in response to post #6, which was a dig against Norris.
No big deal either way. Wayne was a patriot. Norris is a patriot.
John Wayne applied/tested for Annapolis (Naval Academy) in 1925 but only got first alternate.
By 1942 he was a father of four and had suffered various sports and acting related injuries which kept him from being drafted. His studio (Republic) also interfered and threatened to sue him for breach of contract if he tried to enlist later in the war.
