It’s that time of year again: barbecues are getting fired up, fireworks illuminate the night sky, and a couple thousand people in animal costumes are about to descend on Pittsburgh. Anthrocon, the annual gathering of the “Furry” community, is returning to Steel City.

And it must mean that humans are too scary, that only your stuffed animals are unthreatening enough to bare yourself or have sex with. Hm. Never really thought about it. The one person I ever knew who was into role play sex exclusively was abused by her father as a child. She would only have relationships with people who dressed as superheroes. I believe her favorite was Wolverine. Maybe people who only want sex with people dressed as stuffed animals were abused somehow too.

One horrible night years ago, I was surfing the web looking at dog breeders. Somehow my quick skipping around landed me on a Dog Lover site which opened to a true confession letter, a man writing about when he came out to his best friends. He went to dinner at their home, a couple, and he started by saying. “Well, you know how close I am to Lassie, and how she sleeps with me and everything?” I’ll leave the rest to your imagination. It was as bad and as vomitous as you imagine. It’s been at least 10 years and I haven’t gotten over it yet.

From what I hear most furries don't have sex in their suits because it's too hot and the suits are a pain to clean. Many of them wear suits to help with social anxiety and there is a strong gay contingent among the furries.
