A Rock Hill man has been charged with domestic violence against his wife involving the man's pit bull.
John Louis Walch, 59, is accused of opening a cage that held his pit bull in June and urging it to attack his wife, according to police and court records. Walch's wife was found under attack by the dog by responding officers, police said. Officers had to shoot the dog to stop the attack, police said.
The use of a dog of any kind as a weapon in domestic violence is a first in York County, said Jenny Desch, the 16th Circuit Assistant Solicitor prosecuting the case . .
The victim had injuries from the dog bites to her chest, legs and hand, and she was transported to Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill for treatment. . .
Degrees of domestic violence charges are based on the injury to the victim, Desch said. . .
The charge Walch faces now is a misdemeanor, but carries up to three years in prison if convicted, according to state law.
The dog had to be shot and killed by responding police officers who saw the attack and could not get Walch to call the dog off, according to police reports . . .
Police "heard screaming from the victim" as she was being attacked, an arrest warrant states. Officers "observed the dog attacking the victim," the warrant states.
Walch told the dog to go after the wife and then refused to stop the carnage even as police entered the home and commanded Walch to call the dog off, said Capt. Mark Bollinger of the . . .
"Officers had to shoot the dog for the safety of the victim," Bollinger said.
Walch was released on $10,000 bond after his arrest, court records show..

How is this not attempted murder?!
Should be!
A very good question. If you will read the entire story (too many words to post in full) the writer out of South Carolina, a heavy “dog-fighting” state, is extremely careful to quote, by name, rank, and department, everything that is in the story.
It is being treated with kid gloves.
If you do read the whole story, you will see that it has been initially given to a prosecutor who usually does domestic violence. It appears to be too big not to report, but they will try very hard to sweep it under the rug.
This should actually be on Drudge. It is that bad.
I thought I had nothing to say.
It appears that I may have just been in shock and disbelief. And may still.
The man incited his pit bull to attack his wife, and refused to call it off in the presence of law enforcement while she was being ripped to pieces by the dog in front of them all.
This is demonic.
Thank you for reading this. I must leave now for Independence Day.
Veterans, thank you for your service.
it should be 100%
As a viewer of Discovery ID channel, I will tell you this is not the first time these dogs have been used to intentionally murder someone, at least in this case attempted murder.
I saw a story about some hood trash who moved in with their mean pit bulls and released them from their gate at the exact same time their female 40-something neighbor was getting home from work, who they had a long running argument with over their dogs.
They ripped her to shreds.
Why not just post the info, such as it may be, as a public service for fellow FReepers? Or is there something "un-publishable" about it, like maybe you are charging a fee for it?
Satan prowls
Dude! you need to be more balanced and fair. Where are all the stories about golden retrievers having to be shot to stop an attack? Pomeranians, corgies, greyhounds ,Blue heelers, tea cup Chihuahuas? my sister got bit by a llama once!!. /s. otoh keep up the good work. and yes this should be attempted Murder, not a simple assault.
Crazy effer killed his dog. Film at eleven.
What if he used a knife?
Or a gun?
Or a nuclear submarine?
Stop it.
Crazy is crazy.
Pit Bulls are love.
Oh. Now you see where that’s headed.
Buy a pitbull. Be a good Alpha.
Stop it.
Domestic and child abuse cases rise with the temperature in South Carolina.
