As President Trump prepares to head to a summit with NATO allies in Belgium July 11 and another summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Finland July 16, hes drawing criticism from Democrats, some Republicans and many foreign governments for imposing tariffs on imported goods.
The presidents critics accuse him of recklessly starting a trade war that will be bad for America and the global economy. They couldnt be more wrong and heres why.

No one can say for certain what the outcome of President Trumps tariffs and other trade policies will be. But its in Americas interest for the president to do his best to eliminate trade barriers, level the playing field and shrink our trade deficit.
What really will happen is that our trade partners will drop or significantly lower THEIR tariffs on our goods, and we will either drop or lower the proposed tariffs on their goods.
In any event, it will be an improvement from our standpoint, which is all that matters in these issues.
There are voices and points on multiple sides of the debate... but the two points I keep falling back to: 1. Most other nations use tariffs, so I do not give one tinker's damn how they feel about ours... and 2. Trump hasn't done much wrong on the economy so far. He's earned the free pass to give this a shot. And for all we know, it may just be a short-term negotiation tactic. Let's give the man a chance, and see how it goes.
None of these avaricious A-holes will win.
They trade more with us than we do with them.
Socialist pussies will cave quickly..

Yeah, that’s great. Could I just see a comparison of Trump’s credentials for making these decisions with those of his critics?
The tariffs were never meant to bring any revenue into the US treasury, but as a negotiating ploy to reduce the artificial non-tariff barriers to open and fair trade between two nations to their mutual benefit.
The non-tariff barriers include refusal to accept the proposed trade goods unless those goods met legal requirements often much higher than that accepted by the US markets, like for instance different varieties of cheese or wine, as some national entities can get very snobbish about the virtues of their own domestic production, and even a small misinterpretation is basis for total embargo on whole classes of goods.
It's not gonna affect foreign sales of our products as their tariffs are already creating an unfair advantage for their products.
It will be nice to see labels with Made in America on them again.
Trump did not start a trade war.
Other countries have been taking advantage of us for decades.
Trump wants a level playing field, as most of us do.
If President Trump’s proposed tariffs bring manufacturing back to the USA and level the playing field, that’s good enough for me. To me, it’s all about manufacturing in the USA. The deal with Harley Davidson building bikes in Poland shows how the EU has used tariffs to lure manufacturing out of the USA.
Absolutely spot on. To paraphrase the great George C. Scott in Patton: "Trump, you magnificent bastard. I read your book!"

At the G-7, Trump asked that everyone do away with tariffs. No one wanted to so he’s twisting their arms.
It was either Trump or someone on his staff said that the G7 attendees “couldn’t get out of the room fast enough,” when he suggested zeroing out tariffs.
