Oak Ridge’s Summit supercomputer, designed to reclaim the title “world’s fastest,” has officially done so.

The designation came Tuesday at the ISC High Performance conference in Frankfurt, Germany, according to a news release from Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Eight times more powerful than its predecessor, Titan, the Summit supercomputer reclaims the title from China’s Sunway TaihuLight.

MAGA

If soyboy Barry were still president (shudder), he’d call China and apologize.

In related news, locals have noticed an influx of Roombas converging on Oak Ridge.

Not only is “Summit” significantly faster than “Sunway TaihuLight”, it gets there with about 1/5 as many cores and just over half as much power.

...

Looks like China has some new technology it needs to steal.

Back in my day, if you wanted a supercomputer, you just networked a bunch of PlayStations together.

“The article stated that during a test, the Summit computer reached 122.3 petaflops. That’s PDF (pretty dang fast). “

...What’s a petaflop?

What happens every time that organization tries to get me not to eat meat!

It’s still going to bog every 6 months with the latest “windows schmen” ‘anniversary’ update.

How’d the chineseium computer get so fast? Stolen tech?

Cheers

KYPD

I’m not a huge fan of Lotus Notes.

It’s something that if it could go away now, I would be very pleased.

Horrible software.

Yes, but if it’s programming tells it to “hey look! A squirrel!”, will it find them all? Or will it crash?

How did Chinese computers get so fast? Well, that would be proceeds from the Clinton technology clearing house sale back in the 90's.

When the military stopped technology sales if inappropriate, the Clintons merely moved the approving authority to the state department, which they have owned ever since.

Every replacement to LNotes that I’ve used has been worse by far. I’ve supported both the clients and servers for Lotus Notes, and while not a cake walk, it wasn’t particularly evil either.

Windows won the big market but I guess they cannot do what Linux can.
