Young people in general are more open to socialism. We were when I was in high school (graduated in 1972).

But then young people mature. Most of ‘em, anyway.

it's a way to fix a system they believe failed them

Maybe the left's take over of education enabled these people to have failed themselves. It's out there, you just have to work for it. Modern day teachers teach that in fair society, it is just given to them. It's not fair they have to work for it. It being success.

Boomers, and a generation later, knew what socialism was. We knew people who had fought in wars against it, we knew about the Berlin wall, the changes in Cuba, the showdown of Tiananmen Square, we were taught real history. These kids are taught either nothing or BS.

As someone who happens to be a Millennial I can honestly say that this article speaks truth.

Although I hear Gen Z is more than likely to be way more conservative than my own generation so there is some hope

Why wouldn’t they like socialism? Fed.gov is massive, is creeping into every facet of life, spends massively, and is in massive debt in our printed, fiat currency. Then you have State governments doing the same

To anyone just looking at the surface, all this would indicate there’s endless cheap money for free housing, free college, free health care, and all the low-IQ immigrants who want to come.

That’s part of the damage done by lowering the import tariffs.

Two many millennials have seen their parents lose their jobs to offshoring, and have to take lower wages or even go on disability just to survive.

We ignored the advice and example of the founding fathers and dropped the tariffs in the 60’s. We’ve lost a ton of industries and jobs as a result.

The decline is in large measure a result of the long range effects of Leftist policy, both on motivation, loss of market freedom & not merit based immigration. Basically, a reversal of what once worked so well, particularly during the Obama nightmare.

The US education system is run by the morally and intellectually vacuous, and many of their students are too stupid to think for themselves.

One of my friend's daughters always used to say she thought everything should be free. When pressed for details, she explains that people who have lots of "stuff" should give it to whoever needs it most.

She dropped out at 16, and married her boyfriend at 18. She's only worked for two weeks in her life ("They, like, kept telling me what to do. F-- that!"), and her husband has a similar aversion to earning a living.

Her stated life goal is to go on government benefits for the rest of her life while getting spending money by begging with a sign at a street intersection.

That’s because they know nothing and have never lived under socialism. I recommend they spend a month in Venezuela.

Substitue “ignorant people” for “millenials”, and it’s a truism.

Why would the Millennials be in favor of socialism?

They were brainwashed in public schools to believe in socialism. It takes a village you know.

The generation has been raised with the "everybody gets trophy" philosophy. Equality of result is seen as good. Striving to win creates inequality in results thus is unfair.

For the most part, the generation and their parents and grandparents have never experienced true economic hardship. There have been recessions, but Uncle Sam has always been their to provide relief.

Indeed socialism is best. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of an individual. /s

Most Millennials had life handed to them on a platter by parents who were hard working.
One of my close friends is destroying her son’s future by doing the Helicopter Mom with him constantly.

He doesn’t get his way...starts crying until he does.

They must be too busing texting to social media to watch news as to what is happening in Venezuela.

Re: Millennials Much More Open To Socialism

That's because the ethnicity of young Americans has radically changed.

That change has been caused by massive LEGAL immigration, and by a declining birth rate for white Americans, which happens everywhere as population segments become more affluent.

Children vote like their parents, but a little more to the Left.

Today, new 18 year old voters are roughly 50% white and 50% non-white.

In the recent past, that number was 70% white and 30% non-white.

Young white millennials vote 55% Republican.

Young non-white millennials vote 80% Democrat.

Millennials are on the whole, not very well educated, and not very bright.
